So far stands as my disappointment of 2010. I'd give it a C - at best, BEST. Casey was pretty good but it had nothing else going for it. It does not explore the character very much, the film is very stoic. I don't really see any insight into why he does what he does. It was gross, but not in a powerful intellectual way like Antichrist. It was boring. The biggest disappointment is that it wasn't visually special at all. The best part is the poster. Honestly, I hope you (Joey) and others do like it, but I don't recommend it. BTW, if I read someone write this stuff I still would've seen it, it's winterbottom and affleck!
Or else we'll end up with another strange ramble of a review like the one I did for Antichrist: http://www.awardscircuit.com/Reviews/2009/Reviews09/antichrist.html
Definitely looks like a very interesting film, and I can say that I'm looking forward to it, no matter how it turns out. I'm a big fan of Casey Affleck, and it seems like this kind of material could translate into another fantastic subtle performance much like his Oscar-nominated role in "Jesse James"...
Before reviews came in I was highly anticipating seeing the movie, but now it's one I'll probably wait for on DVD. Even so, I've heard decent to good reviews on Affleck's performance and that's enough to at least take a look. On a side note, I find it crazy that other than the Ocean's films Affleck has only been in 5 films since 2002 and many of them very small films. His 2007 was better than anyone else's (IMO) and I really hope he starts acting more as right now his performances seemingly have no ceiling.
I'm a big Casey Affleck fan, so I'll be seeing it for sure. As one of the few people who seemed to like The Last Kiss, he was pretty good in that in one of the supporting roles...
Not a bad point, but I don't think everything necessarily needs to say something new. That being said, I highly doubt it will come close to American Psycho.
I'll definitely be seeing it, even if I know not to expect TOO much out of it...

ReplyDeleteSo I've heard, though like you said, I'll still see it. I wasn't big on Antichrist, so I'm hoping for a little better, but we'll see.

ReplyDeleteI'm not expecting greatness, but I think it'll be interesting, if nothing else.

ReplyDeleteI'm still not sure what this film can do or say that American Psycho didn't already cover nearly a decade ago. Oh well, I'll keep an open mind...

ReplyDeleteWell, as far as I'm concerned, if it's not worse than American Psycho I'll be quite happy.
ReplyDeleteWhatever works Matthew.
