I'm not sure how I feel about it. The idea of a shadowy organization running things behind the scenes is an interesting one, if a little too "Dark City"-esque. But the fact that they're taking that premise and then wasting it on an otherwise trivial romance feels like it isn't really making the most of the concept. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
As it started it really grabbed my interest with two great actors who seem to have good chemistry. Then it became yet another 'run for your life as it's out of your control' film and suddenly it looked awful. You hit the mark Joey, an interesting failure. Just a shame Blunt and Damon clearly took a punt on it.
I don't know, I think the project has much more potential than everyone's making it out to be. I'm actually glad that they decided to go the route of a romance, especially since I was surprised to see the limited action elements (since it has been described as a thriller in the past).
Also, Joey, I'm not sure if you're referring to the plot stylizations or the films themselves, but I would definitely beg to differ that there's a humongous disparity between "The Box" (something laughable) and "Dark City" (one of the best sci-fi films ever made)...
I'm open to it being amazing, but I don't see it...though the romance appears to be the best part.
Little of column A and B for the comparison....and the point is that there's a huge disparity, so this flick could go any number of ways. I don't think it'll be the mediocrity of The Box of the confounding brilliance of Dark City.
It certainly looks interesting...

ReplyDeleteIt made me laugh and I don't know why. =D
ReplyDeleteMyles- So, to quote Douglas Adams: "OK, so ten out of ten for style, but minus several million for good thinking".
ReplyDeleteGoldiver- Nothing wrong with that.
ReplyDeleteOverall, I see this as shaping up to be an interesting failure, but one I do really want to see...

ReplyDeleteWe'll see, but yea...I'm not expecting much, just something between The Box and Dark City.
