I didn't know being like Forrest Gump was a bad thing. I guess people just find it's too similair, which is another reason I think people should blame Roth and not Fincher.
Although, I think the intentions of the two movies are completely opposite. As Keith said, FG really went to your throat to emotionally drain you, as well as provide an interesting backtrack in American history through an ordinary guy. CCOBB was quite as sappy (thank you David Fincher) and more so focused on big life events rather than in history.
I'd have to agree it all looks very similar, and it's got to be the script writer's fault. Did anybody ever think to point this out to the producers/director?
I think this shows how it was all Eric Roth's fault who is a good writer, Forrest Gump is great but in my opinion his best script is The Insider. I mean the premise(agining backwards) is amazing, and the film is solid in everything it does but the fault is just in the simlicity of the plot and the similarites to Forrest Gump. When I first heard about this film, I assumed it would be a mystery very fincher esque about a man trying to discover why he aged backwards I was hoping for a film like that, not just a film about how a handicapped man had an interesting life...
It's tough to dispute the evidence. Although, I felt like FG had more emotional charm than Benjamin Button.

ReplyDeleteThey are similar, except "Gump" was insipid, and "Button" was very powerful. "Run, Forrest, Run." Give me a break. "CCOBB" was so much better.
