I wholeheartedly agree with "brick" but I would definitely have to add apocalypto and junebug. Apocalpto got no love whatsoever and Junebug I felt was best picture 2 years ago.

ReplyDeleteWell, I loved Brick and The Fountain, but Elizabethtown? Elizabethtown is not only Crowe's worst film by miles, it is one of the must unbearable films I have ever bore witness to...

I won't defend Elizabethtown, but I enjoyed it without regret and consider it a lightweight yet enjoyable film.....Zodiac is definitely somewhat overlooked this year...and i totally agree with Clay...especially with Gone Baby Gone, Bobby, and A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints.....
ReplyDeleteI love "All the Real Girls"--fantastic! and it was shot not far from where I used to live. Brilliant movie, i don't know why it never got recognized as such.
ReplyDeletefar beyond brilliant...it's a relationship film about a real relationship....i suppose it's the anti Elizabethtown in a way....regardless, it's a tremendous film that makes me fall in love with Zooey Deschanel all over again everytime i watch it...

ReplyDeleteI've gotta go with with Children of Men, a breathtaking masterpiece. In fact, just mentioning it makes me want to see it again...
ReplyDeleteI'd also agree with Junebug. But it wasn't entirely neglected, Amy Adams at least got a nomination.
Also Clean with a stunning performance by Maggie Cheung.
children of men indeed...and speaking of children....how bout Little Children? Loved the book, loved the movie
ReplyDeleteA huge second to Little Children. Nice to see the acting and screenplay noms last year but I felt that the film itself was best picture material...much moreso than The Queen, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteThis one's going out on a limb but... Casino Royale? Sure it's a Bond but at that, the best one in years, perhaps decades. And much more sophisticated and I thought worthy of at least some buzz.
not too much of a limb....Daniel Craig changed the way youn play Bond, and that warrants a spot here, at least in my opinion, and hey, i started the convo, so it works....nuff said lol

ReplyDeleteThe Fountain was the most overlooked film I can remember in the past 10 years,its one of my favorites. Also Children of Men which wasnt really overlooked but definitly deserved more recognition.

ReplyDeleteAgreed on "The Painted Veil". It somehow rose above the period piece tripe that it could have been. Also, I think that was Edward Norton's best performance hand down. He's always great, but he's always Edward Norton. In "The Painted Veil", he became someone else.

ReplyDeleteI agree that In the Bedroom was a terrific movie, but gee are we going that far back? It came out in 2001!
ReplyDeleteIn that case I'll put in a plug for AI. Most critics didn't like it because it's not exactly a feel-good movie, but I thought it was brilliant and pure Spielberg (even though the project was started by Kubrick).
i dig AI too....and since i didn't set a hard cap on how far back we're goin, it's all good
