I think this has some acting potential mainly Natalie Portman who is fantastic in everything, toby maguire and jake gyllenhaal I can see possibly globe nods but I doubt oscaar and maybe screenplay, but sheridans films have never really hit home with the Oscars come the big award, I think his films are all too one note melodrama, this looks the same.
it's the type of movie to me that the reviews will have a lot to do with how it does...im also curious how it's 1 year delay will affect it, but it worked for The Hurt Locker, so I'm not too worried (though it didn't work for The Soloist and we don't know about The Road yet)
Gyllenhaal I think has the best look out of the trailer, since Maguire mildly screams "acting!" with his trauma, but all 3 look lik they could have potential...and let's not forget that Jim Sheridan got some nominations with In America
Aside from the "oh, woah, dude don't go there!" reactions, this looks pretty powerful. The line uttered by the little girl about her mum wanting to sleep with Uncle Tommy more than her dad is freaky and perhaps melodramatic. It doesn't scream Oscar to me though.
Who would you like to see be the main villain in the next Batman film?

ReplyDeleteI agree about the reviews, a lot of times it plays a huge factor although we have seen that reviews don't always matter (The Reader)

Tobey Maguire looks surprisingly good. Not too sure about Portman but I do agree that she is good in most things minus Star Wars Prequels.
