Film editors are voted into membership on the basis of their professional achievements, their dedication to the education of others and their commitment to the craft of editing. The objectives and purposes of the American CinemaEditors are to advance the art and science of the editing profession; to increase the entertainment value of motion pictures by attaining artistic pre-eminence and scientific achievement in the creative art of editing; to bring into close alliance those editors who desire to advance the prestige and dignity of the editing profession. The ACE Eddie Awards, now in its 60th year, is considered an integral precursor to the Oscars®. No film has won Best Picture at the Oscars® without also having received a Best Editing nomination since ORDINARY PEOPLE in 1981. Since the ACE membership boasts a very high cross-over within its membership of Academy® members, it is considered a very accurate bellwether for the eventual Oscar® outcome. For additional information on ACE and the ACE Eddie Awards please visit the ACE website at http://www.americancinemaeditors.com .
Very sad to see Basterds left out, the best editing I've seen in a long time. Tarantino is a master at tension building, the opening and La Louisane, edited to perfection.
ReplyDeleteThat was a little surprising, yes.
ReplyDeleteI can't say I'm surprised that Basterds missed out. I thought that the editing was one of the weakest points of the film. It needed someone to sit down with Tarantino and take a long hard look at some of the scenes which we could have done without.
ReplyDeleteI think that is reflected in the lack of a nomination.
That's been one of the longstanding criticisms about him. Some people agree, some don't. I fall somewhere in between, but can definitely understand Basterds not making the cut here, though I personally would have liked it to have.
