Darren Aronofsky and Brad Pitt to go 'Tiger Hunting' with the writer of 'Babel'?

So it seems, according to The Hollywood Reporter:

Guillermo Arriaga, the writer behind Brad Pitt's fractured drama "Babel" as well as indie darling "Amores perros," is reteaming with Pitt for "The Tiger," a drama that Darren Aronofsky is developing as a potential Pitt vehicle. The project will be a co-production between Focus Features and Random House's film division.

The story, based on an upcoming nonfiction book by John Vaillant, centers on an animal activist who must protect the small Siberian town he is in when a tiger begins attacking its inhabitants.

Pitt and Aronofsky, who has not yet committed to directing "Hunting," have been developing the project under the radar since last year.

UTA-repped Arriaga's other credits include dramas "21 Grams" as well as "The Burning Plain," which he also directed.

Aronofsky is producing with his Protozoa partners Mark Heyman and Ari Handel. Pitt is producing via his Plan B shingle along with the company's Jeremy Kleiner and Dede Gardner.

-This is definitely another film to keep track of...thoughts?

Darren Aronofsky to direct Rachel Weisz in a Jackie Kennedy biopic!

Coming Soon has the story:

Entertainment Weekly reports that Rachel Weisz is attached to star in Jackie, about the immediate days following President Kennedy's assassination.

Weisz's fiance, director Darren Aronofsky will direct and produce, along with his producing partner Scott Franklin and their Protozoa Pictures film company.

The project had been rumored to be a TV film, but it is going to theaters instead. Noah Oppenheim wrote the script.

The magazine says that Jackie "catalogs the four days between Kennedy's assassination and his burial, showing the beloved Kennedy at both her most vulnerable and her most graceful."

-I've heard the script turned some heads in Hollywood, so we'll see if this turns into a future Oscar player or not...thoughts?

Darren Aronofsky to potentially make a film with Angelina Jolie?

Well, they're discussing it at least, according to this in The Hollywood Reporter:

Angelina Jolie and Darren Aronofsky are in discussions to develop a big-screen adaptation of Ron Rash's 2008 period tome "Serena: A Novel." The project would be a starring vehicle for Jolie, while Aronofsky would direct.

Chris Kyle, who penned the Kathryn Bigelow movies "The Weight of Water" and "K-19: The Widowmaker," wrote the screenplay for the project, which is being produced by Nick Wechsler, the man behind recent high-profile adaptation such as "The Road," "The Time Traveler's Wife" and "Reservation Road."

Set in the rugged mountains of 1929 North Carolina, "Serena" follows a man named George Pemberton and his new bride, Serena, as they create a timber empire. Serena not only takes to the woods, but she also pushes her husband to commit more and more ruthless acts. When she learns she cannot bear a child, Serena sets out to murder the son her husband fathered illegitimately.

The package is quietly making the rounds around town in its search for financing. Work on the script is also needed before the duo could move forward.

CAA-repped Aronofsky, who just wrapped "Black Swan" for Fox Searchlight and Phoenix Pictures, is on the hunt for a new project. And he has shown that he is not afraid to go it alone to get a movie made -- as he did with "The Wrestler."

Despite the period setting, "Serena" could be made for a price if made in a similar fashion to the way Paul Thomas Anderson fashioned his early 20th century-set movie "There Will Be Blood."

Jolie, repped by Media Talent Group, remains one of the few female actresses who can make or break a movie. It was her interest in "Salt" that got Sony to change the sex of its title character to make that pic, which opens July 23.

Jolie recently dropped out of "Wanted 2" for Universal, which caused reports to surface the project was dead. The sequel is alive, according to Universal insiders.

The actress, who is currently shooting "The Tourist" with Johnny Depp, has nothing lined up as a follow-up, though a movie based on the Patricia Cornwell character Kay Scarpetta is one of the stronger contenders on her to-do list.

Has the success of Avatar meant doom for a Darren Aronofsky helmed Robocop?

Perhaps, if this story is to be believed. Apparently the powers that be want it to be in 3D, and Aronofsky has been vocal on his distaste for that and preference for more traditional film making techniques. I think this is more or less the divide between trying to make a movie like The Dark Knight and trying to make a movie like Avatar. Both are successful big budget movies made by great directors, but one relies on computers a lot more, and that doesn't seem like Aronofsky's way. It'd be great to still see him tackle this, but who knows if it'll happen. I really just posted this to get a sense of how people feel about the current 3D craze, but comment on this however you like, since I just report the news.
-Which type of movie (Robocop or not) do you prefer?

Darren Aronofsky's upcoming supernatural thriller continues to sound better and better...

...at least in terms of casting. This story in Variety (about one of the casting additions) only makes me more excited for this flick:

Winona Ryder is in talks to co-star in Darren Aronofsky's supernatural thriller "Black Swan" opposite Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis.

Fox Searchlight is in talks to co-finance the film and distribute domestically. Cross Creek Pictures is already on board to co-finance. Cross Creek's Brian Oliver is producing alongside Scott Franklin of Protozoa. Arnold Messer and Mike Medavoy of Phoenix Pictures are also producing.

Set in the ballet world of New York City, story centers on a veteran dancer (Portman) and a rival (Kunis) who are tangled in a manipulative relationship, but it's unclear whether the rival is real or a figment of the ballet dancer's imagination. Ryder will play a fellow dancer.

Actress, whose career had been dormant for nearly a decade, has begun to work again in high-profile projects. This summer, she portrayed Spock's mother in the "Star Trek" reboot. She will next be seen in Rebecca Miller's "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee."

Ryder is currently shooting "When Love is Not Enough: The Lois Wilson Story," a Hallmark Hall of Fame Presentation for CBS. She is repped by the Gersh Agency.

This article here from Slashfilm also adds that Vincent Cassel and Barbara Hershey are in as well, which only makes the project sound better...

Darren Aronofsky's next film will be an indie heist thriller!

Variety has the story:

Darren Aronofsky will direct and produce an indie heist thriller based on the daring $85 million robbery at the Securitas Depot in Tonbridge, England, in February 2006.

XYZ Films and Time Inc. Studios are partnered with Protozoa Pictures on the project. Scott Franklin of Protozoa will produce alongside Aronofsky. Time Inc. Studios chief Paul Speaker is exec producing, with XYZ fully financing the development.

Kerry Williamson is adapting the script from an underlying rights package that includes Jon Wertheim's Sports Illustrated magazine article "Breaking the Bank" and Howard Sounes' nonfiction book "Heist: The Inside Story of the World's Biggest Robbery."

Time and XYZ established a partnership a year ago to develop and produce movies based on articles from Time Inc.'s publications (Daily Variety, Aug. 5, 2008) and identified its first project after optioning "Breaking the Bank," covering the alleged criminal exploits of Ultimate Fighting Championship competitor "Lightning" Lee Murray.

The companies recently signed Alex Holmes ("House of Saddam") to direct the John DeLorean feature project that is in pre-production and based on Fortune and Time articles, among other underlying rights.

Williamson recently adapted "Fork in the Road" for Alexander Payne and Fox Searchlight and "The Devil's Banker" for Paramount.

Today's News: 'Bridget Jones' to write a new entry in her Diary, Hugh Jackman comes calling with 'Avon', What's next for Darren Aronofsky, and more...

In the news:

Get ready for more Bridget Jones as a third film is in the works.

Hugh Jackman is an 'Avon Man' it seems.

Darren Aronofsky's involvement with the remake of 'Robocop' could be in limbo (or continue on with a new director), depending on when he gets his supernatural drama 'Black Swan', starring Natalie Portman, off the ground.

It seems as though Stephen Chow will not be Seth Rogen's Kato in the upcoming 'Green Hornet' flick.

Russell Brand gets family friendly by lending his voice to an animated film.

A real good cast is lined up for Stanley Tucci's film that he wrote and will direct.

Emily Blunt will be the female lead in Matt Damon's upcoming sci-fi flick.

Finally, if you're curious about the latest in MPAA ratings, look here.
