Jennifer Lawrence adds a horror flick to her upcoming slate...

...continuing her rise in profile, according to The Hollywood Reporter:

Jennifer Lawrence and Max Thieriot are starring in "House at the End of the Street," a horror thriller from FilmNation and A Bigger Boat being directed by Mark Tonderai.

"House" centers on a teen girl (Lawrence) who moves with her mom to a new town and learns that their home is across the street from a house where a double murder took place. Complications ensue when the teen befriends the massacre's sole surviving son (Thieriot).

The project is looking to be to "Psycho" what "Disturbia" was to "Rear Window."

FilmNation's Aaron Ryder and Peter Block of A Bigger Boat are producing with Tim Williams, Hal Lieberman and Jonathan Mostow. Mostow wrote the story on which the script, written by David Loucka, is based.

Producers are looking at a mid-July start in Ottawa.

The CAA-repped Lawrence stars in "Winter's Bone," an indie drama due out this year, and recently wrapped production on "The Beaver," starring Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson.

The Gersh-repped Thieriot has tested for leads in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and "Justice League" and in the fall is toplining Wes Craven's "My Soul to Take."

Oscilloscope picks up 'Howl' for release!

Oscilloscope Laboratories announced today that it has acquired U.S. distribution rights to 2-time Academy Award® winning director Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman's first dramatic narrative HOWL. Starring James Franco in a career-defining performance as Allen Ginsberg, HOWL is the story of how the young poet's seminal work broke down societal barriers in the face of an infamous public obscenity trial. HOWL was the opening night film at Sundance Film Festival 2010 and also played in competition at 2010 Berlinale. The film was produced by Elizabeth Redleaf and Christine Kunewa Walker of Werc Werk Works, and Epstein and Friedman. Oscilloscope will release HOWL in theaters and VOD on September 24, 2010.

In his famously confessional style, Ginsberg – poet, counter-culture icon, and chronicler of the Beat Generation – recounts the road trips, love affairs, and search for personal liberation that led to HOWL, the most timeless work of his career. HOWL interweaves three stories: the unfolding of the landmark 1957 obscenity trial; an imaginative animated ride through the prophetic masterpiece; and a unique portrait of a man who found new ways to express himself, and in doing so, changed his own life and galvanized a generation.

HOWL features James Franco, David Strathairn, Jon Hamm, Bob Balaban, Alessandro Nivola, Treat Williams, with Mary-Louise Parker and Jeff Daniels.

'I Love You Phillip Morris' is delayed no more!

The Jim Carrey-Ewan McGregor starrer "I Love You Phillip Morris" isn't getting much love these days.

Dark comedy's theatrical release has been pushed back from April 30 to July 30. Consolidated Pictures Group is distributing the film.

Despite its top star billing, "Phillip Morris" has been plagued with distribution distress since premiering at Sundance in 2009, largely because of the film's challenging subject matter.

From "Bad Santa" scribes Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, "Phillip Morris" tells the story of a married con man (Carrey) who falls in love with his cellmate (McGregor). Pic is based on the life of con man/artist Steven Jay Russell.

"Phillip Morris" will open in a limited run, and begin expanding on Aug. 6.

Another delay for 'I Love You Phillip Morris"...

...with this latest one perhaps being the proverbial nail in its coffin. Here's the story via the Los Angeles Times:

Audiences hoping to love Phillip Morris, or at least watch Jim Carrey loving Phillip Morris, will have to wait a little longer. Or maybe much longer.Consolidated Pictures Group, the start-up that was poised to release the Sundance title, has postponed the release once again. And this time it's indefinite.

The movie, which premiered at Sundance in 2009 and eventually played the Directors' Fortnight in Cannes, was originally set to be released March 26. But about a month before that date, the company delayed the release date to April 30, when it was supposed to begin a limited run before expanding several weeks later.

Now a spokeswoman for the film confirms that the movie has been delayed again and in fact won't be coming out at the end of the month. She adds that there is no release date scheduled at this time.

The movie, which comes from "Bad Santa" writers Glenn Ficarra and John Requa and focuses on a love affair between a con man (Carrey) and his cellmate (Ewan McGregor, playing the titular Phillip Morris), drew mixed reviews on the festival circuit. But it did have its champions, who admired Carrey's willingness to take on difficult (and partly true) subject matter

Movies can sit on the shelf without a distributor for years, but it's rare for a title with such high-profile stars and a fair dollop of media attention not to see the light of day.

CPG, the start-up that released movies such as the indie wine-making drama "Bottle Shock," picked up the title after it failed to find a buyer at Sundance. The acquisition gave hope to some that the independent distribution market wasn't as bleak as some said, but the postponement suggests that it may, in fact, be that bleak after all.

Oscilloscope picks up one of the documentaries from Sundance for distribution...

...continuing the small studio's run of putting out very interesting films (Wendy And Lucy, The Messenger, Tell Them Anything You Want, and The Exploding Girl, to name a few that I enjoyed). Here's the story from The Hollywood Reporter:

Oscilloscope has acquired North American distribution rights to Yael Hersonski's Holocaust documentary "A Film Unfinished."

The doc, which premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival, is the story of a Nazi propaganda film made about Jewish life in the Warsaw ghetto. Oscilloscope will open the pic Aug. 18 on a single New York screen, add a second Manhattan venue two days later and expand distribution during subsequent frames.

"This movie really affected me," Oscilloscope head Adam Yauch said. "It's an incredibly powerful film, not just because of the rare Nazi propaganda footage it shows but also the captivating way the filmmakers tell the story."
