Today's Posters: Brothers, Jennifer's Body, It Might Get Loud, and (500) Days of Summer

Today we start with what is my favorite Poster so far this year, this amazing one for Jim Sheridan's Oscar hopeful, Brothers:
Next is this decently cool one for Jennifer's Body:

Then we have a new look at the rock documentary It Might Get Loud:

And finally we wrap up with a new Poster for a film I think is going to be a big hit and a possible Oscar dark horse, (500) Days of Summer:

Today's News: 'Moneyball' lives due to Aaron Sorkin, We will soon know who the 'Green Lantern' is, Mel Gibson teams up with Jodie Foster, and more...

In the news:

Aaron Sorkin has come on to rewrite 'Moneyball' and keep the movie from dying, even though it no longer has Steven Soderbergh directing it.

It's come down to an eclectic trio vying for the title role in the superhero flick 'Green Lantern'.

Mel Gibson is going to star in 'The Beaver
', which Jodie Foster is directing and costarring in, off of a script that topped the most recent Black List.

Zooey Deschanel reunites with director David Gordon Green for the comedy 'Your Highness'.

It appears that 'The Hangover' was quite profitable for Todd Philips, in more ways than one.

One more reason to want to see (500) Days of Summer...

This video is great, so watch it just for the entertainment value, but also ponder this: does the film have a chance to be an Oscar dark horse? The movie itself reminds me so much of Annie Hall, and that won Best Picture, so it's not completely out of the question, especially with the new field of 10. Anyway, you be the judge:

Today's Posters: (Oscar Edition) Inglourious Basterds and Broken Embraces

First up is another in the infinitely cool Basterds Posters:
And second is the Poster for Almodovar's latest:

Gary Ross joins the pool of people taking a crack at the Spider-Man 4 script.

Will Smith to team up again with his I Am Legend director, this time on a father/daughter movie.

The Smurfs movie gets a director, for better or worse.

The new Trailer for Judd Apatow's 'Funny People' goes for the laughs instead of the Oscar votes...

...and might have added some by doing so. Here it is:

One of the worst DVD release weeks in a while...

Sorry for the one day delay, I had to make an unexpected trip back to college for the day (despite having graduated in May). That's all taken care of now, so let's have at it with this week's DVD releases. Quite frankly, they suck. None of these 3 movies are above average, and they all greatly disappoint in one way or another. My PICK OF THE WEEK actually came from a coin flip. It's:
Knowing
This movie had a chance to be really cool, but it ended up being really frustrating. It's worth seeing only in that it's the rare action movie in which Nicolas Cage doesn't completely sleepwalk through the proceedings. Alex Proyas does what he can, but the film is one gigantic missed opportunity.
-Also out this week is the horror film The Unborn and the superhero-ish film Push, but neither are worth mentioning too much. They each had a chance not to suck, but they fail to accomplish even that menial goal.
-As I do when it's a bad week, my Vintage picks are more a grab bag of films to watch this week to make up for a dearth of good new releases. This week they are: The Wrestler (yes, I still love it), Blazing Saddles, Superbad, Singin' in the Rain, Bound, and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. All are great films in one way or another and deserve a view!
-What will you be watching on DVD this week?

First we have a trailer for District 9 which finally shows some of the actual movie plot:

Today's Posters: The Hurt Locker times two

Today we get two new Posters for The Hurt Locker (a favorite of ours here at The Awards Circuit, if you didn't know already...and if you don't read our reviews of it here). Check them out:

They're not quite as unique or edgy as the ones we saw earlier this year, but I like their use of "war is a drug" in the marketing...it fits, trust me. Thoughts?

Today's News: A new project for Tobey Maguire, The Joan Jett biopic continues casting, and more...

In the news:

Tobey Maguire joins up with Elizabeth Banks in a black comedy called 'The Details'.

'Runaways', the Joan Jett biopic, adds to its cast.

The writer of Pearl Harbor (and other, better things) signs up to rewrite McG's Captain Nemo movie.

Sadly, another SNL skit is coming to the big screen.

An Update to The Awards Circuit: The Academy Tracker Page!

Indeed, new on the Main Page of the site is our new Oscar Tracker, which keeps a record of the films and/or performances that have Oscar Buzz so far in the year. It's a great way to get a sense of who the earliest contenders might be, and it's also a new way for you to interact with us, because if you see a film or performance missing that you think should be on there, let us know and we might just add it to our list. Take a look at the new page here!
-What do you guys and girls think of this new addition to the site?

Today's News: Major League 4?, A T.J. Hooker movie?, and more...
