While we took some hard criticism from our readers for giving breakthrough actress Amy Adams a spot in our Top 5 for Disney's Enchanted, we are glad to inform you our early hunch is quickly coming true...
The latest reviews for Enchanted are not only terrific for the Junebug showstealer, the film is also getting very positive remarks. Expect Adams to become a key player this Oscar season and look out for Enchanted in the Best Original Score, Song and Screenplay categories...
Is Amy Adams in your Top 5 now?
That shot where she runs through the park reminded me of Sound of Music a lot.
ReplyDeleteI didn´t think she´s that incredible.. she might even be nominated.. but she´s absolutely nothing compared to Marion Cotillard...
ReplyDeleteThe buzz surrounding this performance is outrageous. Totally undeserved. And the comparison with Mary Poppins is ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteTo the Anonymous above...
ReplyDeleteHave you even seen the movie? Not only is she good, she's fantastic and I'll be rooting for her for the duration of the season.
And the comparison to Mary Poppins is valid. Extremely valid.
no way in hell amy adams will beat marion cotillard! adams is a good actress, but it´s a travesty to even compare both performances. cotillard is simply in another league.
ReplyDeleteThis article is dead on. Adams is a lock.
ReplyDeleteMarion Cotillard,
ReplyDeleteJulie Christie,
Ellen Page,
Amy Adams,
either - Keira/Angelina
It´s pretty obvious who will be nominated now. And I agree, if Marion doesn´t win it´s only because she´s french.
Of course I could be wrong but I don't think both Page and Adams will be nominated. One or other. Right now my gamble is with Adams.
ReplyDeleteBest Actress in a Leading Role is this year's most interesting and competitive acting category. THere are more than 10 actresses capable of getting nominated. I think there are four performances that are the closest to locks: Julie Christie (Away From Her), Laura Linney (The Savages), Marion Cottilard (La Vie en Rose), & Amy Adams (Enchanted).
ReplyDeleteFor now, that last spot goes to Kiera Knightley for "Atonement," but, (and this is a major but), her role is very small, and that could be a problem. In the event that they don't go with Knightley, Cate Blanchett, Ellen Page, and Angelina Jolie are likely replacements.
Sitting on the bench at the moment are Kerri Russell & Jodie Foster.
And a major dark horse here seems to be Nicole Kidman who could benefit from critics prizes, and solid reviews for her performance.
Question: Other than Ebert, where's the love for Ellen Page in "Juno?" It's pretty quiet. Ebert is often right, but he's been wrong before too.
For now, I'm guessing it's:
Laura Linney (The Savages)
Amy Adams (Enchanted)
Marion Cottilard (La Vie en Rose)
Julie Christie (Away From Her)
Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth)
As for the winner, there's only one thing that wins BEST ACTRESS, and that is HEART. Who will AMPAS empathize with most. Remember, Hilary Swank won two Oscars because people related and empathized with her two underdogs. Likewise, they felt sorry for Helen Hunt (As Good As It Gets), as a do gooder mom, and for Charlize Theron's monster role. The performance has to be great, but also has to have Heart. Right now, I think it's Cottilard, Christie or Linney.
I agreee, It's a tough year. And it's not about what kind of role an actress plays. It's how she portrays it. Amy Adams deserves a nomination.
ReplyDeleteShe is a great actress! She deserves to get a nomination.. Doubt that she will win tho, if Johnny Depp couldn't win I doubt she will! She's not quite due yet and if she will keep giving these performances she will win one day! The academy knows that.
ReplyDelete4 words -
ReplyDeleteMarion Cotillard - Best Actress.
It´s as simple as that.
I haven't seen all the other performances so comparisons can't be made here. But I have seen Enchanted and I can say that I was pretty skeptical that Amy Adams could pull this off. After seeing the movie, I can say she pulls it off and you actually BELIEVE she is a princess from fair-tale-land. She is totally mesmerizing and believable as a Disney princess incarnate.
ReplyDeleteI hope the Academy will give her serious consideration.
Marion Cotilard is almost a winner. I believe amy Adams is a dark horse but she has many competition; especially by other two actresses:
ReplyDelete-Laura Linney "The Savages"
-Ellen Page "Juno".
My perception is that Amy Adams will be a strong fight but she lost by Laura Linney for three reasons:
-Laura Linney is one of the most hard working actresses in Hollywood
-Linney is more Academy Award darling
-Linney has more Oscarish role and she's the central caracter of the movie
In the benining i think Ellen Page wil be nominated but now...
My predictions:
-Helena Bonham Carte "Sweeney Todd"
-Marion Cotillard "La vie en rose"
-Julie Christie "Away from her"
-Laura Linney "The Savages"
Who's the fifth place:
More likely: Amy Adams, Cate Blanchett, Ellen Page
Maybe: Keri Russell, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman (She resource by the ashes), Keira Knightley (I don't like it, but the film...), Jodie Foster (Good performance against the film)
I don't think so: Halle Berry, Wei Tang. Giovanna Mezzogiorno
Marion Cotillard was by far the BEST ACTRESS of the year...
ReplyDeleteAmy Adams, Ellen Page and Laura Linney will probrably be nominated, but Cotillard delivered one of the best performances in film history.
I saw this movie today. It was a lot of fun and well-made. And Amy Adams is definitely in my top five. She lit up the screen every minute she was on.
ReplyDeleteyou actually BELIEVE she is a princess from fair-tale-land. She is totally mesmerizing and believable as a Disney princess incarnate.
Definitely. And at the same time I was also very moved watching her begin to change as she realizes that she cares for Robert and begins to experience real-life emotional pain and longing. Of course that could be just a subjective reaction.
Either way, it was a wonderful performance and she most definitely deserves a nomination.
I just saw this movie today and i have to say that it may not be your tipical "oscar film" but amy adams is simply AMAZING in this this role. se brings such a strong spirit with her and her acting is great! you almost beleive she's really a disney princess!!! i think she should get nomiunated for her amazing acting! so what if she's not playing a junkie or a prostitute?! what's wrong with a little optimism?

ReplyDeleteAdams is so far my #1 of the year, yet I need to see Cotillard's performance...This race is starting to become more colorful becuase of Adams talk of a nomination and as of now, I think she is in. And even with all the raves she is getting, people as in the audience in general are going crazy over this performance. What also will help is that Enchanted is poised to gross around 55 million over the weekend!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with her getting a nomination but man ur picks are off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Your gonna be doing alot of changes to make it look like u guys know what ur talkin about, Live u have already been doing ahahahahahah. Your biggest mistake is not having Viggo Mortesnon winning for Eastern Promises, stop judgen ur picks on years prior cause it never works.(unless someone has a chance of being nominated and they won the year before thats it)Oh and When Sweeny takes Best Picture and Johhny Best Actor remember I told u soo.
ReplyDeleteViggo getting nominated not winning, Johhny is gonna win hands down but guarunteed Viggo is gonna get nominated.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Marion Cotillard.
ReplyDeleteShe´s the winner, no doubt about it.
