The 10 Best Films Nobody Saw This Year

Hopping on the list bandwagon with this one, though my official best of the year list is still about a week away. Instead, I'm making mention of the 10 best flicks this year that people mostly seemed to ignore, either in terms of a bad box office, small release, missing out on a wider audience in one way or another, or some combination of those.
Without further blabbering on my part, here they are, in descending order:
10. Diary of the Dead
9. The Hammer
8. Snow Angels
7. My Blueberry Nights
6. Stop Loss
5. Choke
4. The Wackness
3. Charlie Bartlett
2. Zack and Miri Make a Porno
1. The Go-Getter

  2. Interesting list. Loved The Wackness and Snow Angels, Charlie Bartlett was meh, hated Stop Loss, and the rest I have yet to see, but The Go-Getter is on my netflix queue, behind Ghost Town, Burn After Reading, and Man on Wire, so I should get to it in the next week or two.

Speaking of unseen movies, have you seen Kabluey? I just watched it the other night and I really enjoyed it, definitely worth a view.

  5. I would like you to retract your ranking of Charlie Bartlett...Robert Downey jr was the only good thing about it

  6. don't listen to him Joey! Charlie Bartlett was pretty sweet, glad to see it and Zack and Miri on your list!!!

  7. as this is a personal list, I wouldn't ever retract on a personal feeling...I agree that Robert was the best thing about it, but I found the film to be very charming, but far from perfect...my original review pretty much says as much, though I confess my affinity for it has grown since I picked it up on DVD a number of months ago

  9. Out of these, I've only seen Snow Angels (loved it), Stop Loss (wonderful), and Charlie Bartlett (didn't feel it, RDJ was the only good part, that kid Yelchin is annoying as all hell). I tried to see both Choke and Zack and Miri while they were playing but missed them for various reasons: I'll catch up on DVD.

  11. This list is seriously so flawed...I think Snow Angels is honestly the only good film on here...how can you call Stop-Loss or My Blueberry Nights good films? And Charlie Bartlett? How full of itself can a movie be? The Wackness was really not good at all and was critically panned. And as for Zack and Miri...well, Kevin Smith obviously can't write a film without being sentimental or having an original ending for himself. I'm starting to lose confidence in your choices...

  12. I suppose we just have different tastes...this is not the ten best films i've seen this year...in fact, only 2 or 3 will crack my top 20, this is just personally ten films I enjoyed that I thought were overlooked...everyone has their own personal tastes, like for example, I don't particularly care for The Big Lebowski, a film that seems almost universally loved

  13. Joey, while I don't agree with all of your list (don't particularly like Diary of the Dead), I respect your list and like it as an alternate list...can't wait till your official best of the year left comes out!
