One of the best films from the first third of the year comes to DVD this week!

Indeed, a favorite of both Myles and myself (just listen to our first podcast for proof) comes out on DVD this week, and headlines what is a very good week overall. First things first, it's time for my PICK OF THE WEEK, and dedicated fans of the site should know the answer by now, but anyway, here it is:
Adventureland
I absolutely loved the story that Greg Mottola told with this film. It on so many levels. It's a coming of age story on par with what John Hughes used to do. It hits on what made graduating college such a let down for some, as well as showing what being home for the summer is really like. The characters and the acting are top notch too, with Jesse Eisenberg doing as good a job as he's ever done and Kristen Stewart doing her best work ever here. It had a disappointing run at the Box Office, but if there's any (cinematic) justice in this world, it'll find a home on DVD and evolve into a cult classic.
-There are plenty of other films out this week worth a recommendation too if for some reason my top pick doesn't do it for you. First up we have Sunshine Cleaning, an indie comedy that is decently good, if tonally challenged, but boosted by the lovely tandem performances of Amy Adams and Emily Blunt. There's Duplicity, the follow up for Tony Gilroy to Michael Clayton. This is a less serious film than the former, but in my mind a better one (though I wasn't a fan of Michael Clayton, so take that as you will). This spy suspense drama has enough humor and charisma to make Clive Owen and Julia Roberts fun to watch, but the story is a little more convoluted than we needed it to be. Rounding out my recommendations is The Informers. This adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis (my favorite author, just to let you know) novel of short stories by the same name is a different beast than the book, but still a compelling, if flawed film. Look for an actual review by me to pop up on the site in the weeks to come as I process this film and rewrite my earlier review that I abandoned.
-Also out but of less quality is Dito Montiel's disappointing follow up to A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, an underground fighting flick called, well...Fighting. It's not bad or anything, just unfortunately mediocre. We also have Rudo y Cursi, which also wasn't bad, but again, nothing to write home (or here) about.
-My Vintage pick is, in honor of both Rob Zombie putting out his second Halloween film (aptly titled Halloween 2, though not to be confused with the original sequel of that name) and the next in the Final Destination franchise, actually a grouping of horror films. You can watch one of Rob Zombie's films, which are House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, or Halloween. The Devil's Rejects is his best film, though I'm one of the few that actually really liked his take on Halloween. If his flicks didn't do it for you, you can watch either of the earlier Final Destination movies, which are Final Destination, Final Destination 2, and Final Destination 3. These three are all about the same, quality wise, so if you like one, you'd like em all.
