Gotta say, the NBR didn't do too shabby here, and if this tells us anything, it's that Gran Torino and Slumdog are big shots in the race if they weren't already....thoughts?

  1. My predictions weren't too far off base, so i'm mildly proud of myself lol

  2. I think the winners deserve their prizes but we must not forget that NBR winners do not become Academy award winners very often. Last year NBR winners went put empty handed from Kodak Theatre.

  3. indeed, though they help us in a way to begin sorting out who has the muscle to go far

  4. truth be told, these weren't bad results, but I actually liked the picks you made in your predix piece slightly better...

  5. True. I'm glad to see Anne Hathaway getting the award and Slumdog getting attention. It's in my top 5 for Best Picture :)

  6. indeed...Anne Hathaway is as deserving as anyone this year, and might actually be able to win it, but it's way early for that...i've gone back and forth on Slumdog a lot, I think in the next couple weeks it'll become slightly clearer for me

  8. Going to shamelessly plug my own analysis here... http://www.richbradley.org/blog/national-board-of-review-awards/70
The basic conclusion is, for those who weren't yet convinced of Slumdog's frontrunner status before, well, here you go. I also think you have to take any Clint Eastwood nods from the NBR with a grain of salt. Revolutionary Road could be hurt by this, at least buzz-wise.

  9. Anyone else slightly shocked in a good way to see burn after reading and defiance in the top 10?

  10. Revolutionary Road wasn't helped any, but There Will Be Blood suffered the same NBR snub last year...and Burn after Reading and Defiance didn't shock me, since they were both on my list of potentials, but I will say that they would not have made up my 2 or 3 most likely alternates

  11. I'm happy for Josh Brolin, but no win for Heath! They've got to be JOKING. No pun intended, well...maybe it was.

  12. Anyone else bugged the major sucking up to Eastwood?!?! Mickey should have gotten Best Actor! And both Gran Torino AND Changeling made the top 10? I would have liked Kristen Scott Thomas for Best Actress, but other than those mentioned good picks,
