Stephen Soderbergh, the man that brought you films like Che, Ocean's 11, Out of Sight, and sex, lies, and videotape, is collaborating with Sasha Grey in a film titled, "The Girlfriend Experience". Not that I know anything about porn stars and their acting, but they are notoriously derided for their acting capabilities [outside of their niche]. I don't know what the film is about, but anything with a high profile director and a porn star strikes me as interesting. Two things I wonder about: (1) Will Grey be able to break the stigma against porn stars that try to crossover into mainstream? and (2) Will this film be any good?
Veeeery interesting...Soderbergh is a bit of a hit and miss, but even his unsuccessful films have lots of ambition that make them interesting nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteStill, we'll just have to wait and see. If a stripper can win an Oscar, who's not to say that porn stars can't at least get nominated? That would be too funny. I just looked at her imdb profile and she's been in over 150 adult films since 2006, at least she has plenty of experience in front of a camera! =)
the film got very good word at Sundance...it's about a high priced escort set against the backdrop of the 2004 election i think
ReplyDeleteI checked her awards section on IMDB and it is pretty impressive. She woman the Adult Video Award for best female "performer" of the year in '08. She was also nominated for best oral sex scene with Brad Baldwin, Lefty Larue, and (of course) Arnold Schwartzenpecker. I wish I was making this up.
