Inglorious Bastards Finally Getting Rolling?

Joey here with some potentially exciting news. According to this article: http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/quentin-tarantino-unveils-inglorious-bastards/
It seems that Tarantino is showing the script off to potential backers. Does this mean we may really see the flick at Cannes next year?
More importantly, does the idea of a new Tarantino film excite you guys?

  1. This movie might answer the question, "Did Tarantino peak with Pulp Fiction?"

Pulp was a masterpiece, and the Kill Bills were good, but flawed. In my opinion, I thought Death Proof was pretty bad. He's been talking about this film for 7 years now and I think it needs to be of good quality or Tarantino could be in trouble.

  2. I am excited about this picture. Quentin Tarantino has been releasing quality films for over a decade now. And, while Pulp Fiction may be his only true masterpiece he also made Dogs which was strikingly original, Jackie Brown which is criminaly overlooked and the Kill Bill pictures which, flawed as they may have been, were incredibly entertaining.

Okay, so, Death Proof was not up to par with previous work but it still wasn't that bad, and everyone should be granted a mis-step.

  3. I liked Death Proof a lot, but I think part of it had to do with the crazy experience of the double feature with Grindhouse

  4. No, not really.

  5. I loved Grindhouse, but mainly due to Planet Terror and the trailers.

Dogs was very original, but I was not a fan of Jackie Brown. I thought that was his weakest until he made Death Proof.

I think after Death Proof, he really needs to prove he's still got it through Inglorious Bastards, because he's in danger of joining M. Night Shyamalan in the group of tiresome and annoying directors if he doesn't step it up.

  6. Okay Kill Bill vol. 1 maybe be flawed, but kill bill 2 is almost a perfect movie in my mind. David Carradine was horribly snubbed by the Academy.

Just thought I would throw it out there.

  7. In all fairness, while Tarantino may have the biggest hits on his resume over a decade behind him, he is nowhere near M. Night Shyamalan's level. 'Bastards' would have to be a complete piece of trash for such fears to even come close to being justified. I agree that Jackie Brown was so-so, Kill Bill was entertaining but forgettable, and Death Proof was decent but not great. But none of his movies have been outright terrible, and he definitely deserves the benefit of the doubt with his new pic even if he has been inactive for the last few years (Grindhouse notwithstanding).

    David Carradine was a beast.

  8. I think what I'm trying to say is that Tarantino might get tiresome not just due to the possibility of a decline in quality of his films (I say possibly because Bastards should give us a good idea as to if he's had a couple of hiccups or if he's really on a decline), but his personality might not allow him the leeway (sp?) other directors would otherwise get. When he's successful, he is seen as a quirky, unique and gifted filmaker. If he starts to decline, that image could easily switch to an annoying freak who has no original ideas and just steals everything from other movies.

(Again, not necessarily my opinion, but I could easily see this happening. My juries still out on Tarantino, I still need to see more from him to develop a strong opinion on him.)

  10. Asking if the prospect of a new Tarantino film excites me is like asking me if The Dark Knight is going to be amazing.

    Of course it does!

  11. i think overall it may be a little early to be shouting masterpiece, but it does sound like an interesting project, and Tarantino is certainly a talented director
