Apparently there's a prequel to 'Jackie Brown' being made...

...according to this in Cinematical:

For the most part, the masses seem perfectly fine with Quentin Tarantino's tendency to infuse his films with a neverending stream of cinematic references and homages. But what about other people tackling Tarantino's world and vision? Do the same rules apply?

According to JoBlo, there is a Jackie Brown prequel in the works, titled The Switch. The big catch, or switch as the case may be, is that QT has nothing to do with this. He merely gave his blessing on the project and moved on. Dan Schechter adapted Elmore Leonard's novel, and the author will be one of the film's executive producers. As Tarantino mentioned to the Telegraph back in February, this is the book that turned the filmmaker into a Leonard fan, even though that wasn't the film he ultimately made.

The Samuel L. Jackson and Robert De Niro characters Ordell Robbie and Louis Gara lead this tale, which finds the pair becoming fast friends in prison, and then teaming up back in the real world for a big job -- kidnapping the wife of a rich developer for ransom. But in an Overboard-type twist, the guy doesn't want his "beloved" back. With a ticked off wife now in their ranks, they have to move towards Plan B.

The film will soon head out to find a director and cast. Who could fill in Tarantino's shoes, and who could play a younger Ordell and Louis?

-There are certainly worse prequels out there...thoughts?

Quentin Tarantino to head the Venice Film Festival Jury!

Via Variety:

Quentin Tarantino will head the competition jury of the 67th Venice Film Festival, which has already secured several hot titles.

Tarantino, praised by fest topper Marco Mueller as "one of the most startling directors in cinema today," is a Venice aficionado.

While none of his films have screened on the Lido, Tarantino has been the "godfather" of two important Venice sidebars, the Italian Kings of the B's retro in 2004 and the Spaghetti Westerns retro in 2007.

As for films launching from the Lido this year, Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere," which was partly shot in Italy; Monte Hellman's noir "Road to Nowhere," also partly shot in Italy; Julian Schnabel's "Miral," starring Freida Pinto ("Slumdog Millionaire") as a refugee camp teacher in postwar Jerusalem; and Francois Ozon's "Potiche," are all tipped for slots in the official selection.

"Potiche," which stars Catherine Deneuve and Gerard Depardieu and is based on a play set in 1997 in the Gallic provinces, had been floated for the Cannes opening-night slot that went to Ridley Scott's "Robin Hood."

"Miral" also had reportedly been in the Cannes mix.

The fest will run Sept. 1-11.

-I'm curious to see how this festival stacks up to Cannes, which seems a little weak this year...thoughts?

Kill Bill to become a trilogy?

Entertainment Weekly has this small tidbit to share:

Speaking on an Italian talk show Parla Con Me, Quentin Tarantino confirms his plans to make a Kill Bill 3. The writer/director — whose last film Inglourious Basterds has generated over $245 million in worldwide box office — says that he will make another installment of his successful Kill Bill series, but that he wants there to be a 10-year break between the second and third film. That would put Kill Bill 3 with a 2014 release date and his star Uma Thurman at 44, just the right age to kick more ass.

Today's News: Tarantino to be feted at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, The Oscars set a deadline for documentaries and shorts, and more...

In the news:

The Santa Barbara Film Festival will be honoring Quentin Tarantino with their Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film when the fest begins.

September 1st is the deadline for documentaries and short subjects to be submitted for Oscar consideration.

It seems Mike Leigh is hard at work on a new film, again to star Imelda Staunton and Jim Broadbent.

'The White Ribbon' is going to be Germany's entry into the Foreign Film race at the Oscars.

Ben Affleck's next directorial gig has added another cast member to its rather admirable cast.

Katherine Heigl has another romantic comedy coming out, this one with a member of 'Mad Men'.

Look for Hayden Christensen among the cast members of the new film by the director of 'The Machinist'.

Finally, don't look now but Michael Bay might have his eyes on a new franchise to helm.
