  1. I've never seen a Potter flick, so someone else will have to tell me how this is shaping up...

  2. The first 2 are decent films, but seems like they're for people who read the book. The third was a very solid film, and captured the atmosphere of the novel (novels even) quite well. Number four was an action picture, and if one didn't read the book, would feel slightly lost. Five and six were very good on balancing the transition from paper to screen, and making a good film. The seventh and final book is being split into two movies: this will work to make WB richer, and to give fans a proper ending.

  3. I know all about them, just never was interested in watching them...

  4. From a film point of view (for your benefit Joey), the third film is an excellent director's showcase for Alfonso Cuaron. The sixth film features a very sharp Jim Broadbent in one of 2009's finest performances and great cinematography by Bruno Delbonnel. Those two are pretty much the only films in the series worth watching for cinematic value; I'd consider them good stand alone films.

  5. As far as this short "trailer" is concerned, I definitely am liking what I see. As many have pointed out before, these last two films are really going to depend a great deal on the acting talents of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson.

In the last film, Watson already proved that she's actually quite a good actress, and Grint has been very good at developing his character throughout the series. Throughout most of the series, Radcliffe has given very solid performances, but I thought he did quite good work in the last installment as well. Therefore, I have little to worry about as far as their performances are concerned, as is also evidenced by that very intense scene in the trailer.

I understand where you're coming from, Joey, in that these films aren't necessarily for everyone, but if you know the basics of what happens in the first two books/films, I'd really recommend seeing the third film "Prizoner of Azkaban". In my opinion, Cuaron's fantastic skills as a director made this adaptation the best of the bunch, although it's one of the least accurate adaptations. Plus Gary Oldman gives a great performance in it, which is always a plus...

  6. Joshua- Idk, I read a few pages of the first book, decided it wasn't for me, and never looked back...

  7. Ah yes, because dismissing something after the first few pages/minutes is totally legitimate and perfectly professional. That's how criticism should work. ;-)

In regards to the trailer, it looks above average. I had been following the books from day one, and always felt that Deathly Hallows was the best (give or take the disgustingly cutesy ending). As far as the films, they've been hit and miss, and I'm not sold on Yates as a director quite yet. When the last two worked, they were really great. When they didn't, they brought shame and devastation to all in their path. So I'm curious to see how this one (these two, I guess) shape(s) up.

  8. I'm a film critic, if I didn't dig on a book that I started to read before a movie of it was made, it has nothing to do with anything. I review enough other stuff to be able to not bother with Harry and be fine with it.

  9. But regardless, it looks like a fine film, just one I have no interest in.

  10. Myles, I agree with you concerning both Yates and the unevenness of the franchise thus far.

However, even though he has made the worst HP film of the bunch ("Order of the Phoenix", imo), I think that he proved himself quite a bit with "Half Blood Prince", which was the second best film of the bunch.

Overall, I'm anticipating it, but not to an extremely high degree...

  11. In terms of franchises ending on 2-parters, I certainly would prefer to see this than the certain other one...no hints which one it is, but it involves sparkly vampires.

  12. Oh, you mean the one in which Wolfboy wants to rape a little girl?

  13. Well, it's either bestiality or necrophilia for the chick...

  14. Personally this trailer just shows me exactly why the film should be one film and not two! Just look, nothing going to happen in this film besides walking round looking for small objects, most of the time by just sitting and whining in a forest. All the exciting action is in the second half of the book. Stupid greedy producers!!!! Still thinking bout boycotting this.

  15. Exciting trailer, especially the beautiful cinematography of eduardo serra. I´m guessing the last two films are gonna be something exciting, but the doubts are that they`re gonna be in 3D, well, only the special effects.

  16. Stepford- The cinematography has always been the go-to thing to praise for this series, if I'm not mistaken.

  17. Daniel Radcliffe is such a terrible actor...
he still continues to look like he just walked in on his parents....

    It looks exciting nonetheless
