Here's some news about categories for the awards season.1. Morgan Freeman goes LEAD for The Bucket List.
-Not that people were predicting him but do they think he can really outshine Jack?
2. Mark Ruffalo goes LEAD for Reservation Road.
- Now Reservation's chances have really gone down the drain.
3. Naomi Watts is SUPPORTING for Eastern Promises.
-With the weakest category of the year, she could pull a last minute jump in. But people haven't spoken about her performance at all.
4. They have a campaign running for I Am Legend.
-Does this mean something? Probably not, but it's still interesting.
5. Even 300 has a campaign going.
-I assure you, even the Techs are stretching at this point.
6. Nicole Kidman is definitely SUPPORTING for The Golden Compass.
-More weakness for that category.

I can easily quote more than 50 people praising her performance as amongst her best, eg. extraordinary (from rollingstone), quietly powerful (from us weekly)....though she probably will have the best chance campaigning in the supporting category this year, in eastern promises she is definitely the lead actress.
Reservation Road's campaign is ridiculous
ReplyDeleteI think people are underestimating "Reservation Road" based on its festival reception. It would do us all good to remember that festivals often hint at how well a film will perform, but they don't tell us the whole story. For instance, perhaps RR will appeal to the acting branch strongly. After all, former nominees Joaquin Pheonix, and Mira Sirvino & Jennifer Connelly star & Terry George, whose actors have earned 2 Oscar nods in the past (Cheadle and Okonedo for a similar tragidrama), is at the director's helm.
ReplyDeleteAnd wouldn't it be nice to see Naomi Watts, one of the most important & complex actresses in Hollywood earn a second nomination for "Eastern Promises?" While something tells me she will go the way of say, Maria Bello instead, a nomination for Watts would a nice surprise in supporting. It's such a weak year as we all know.
I think "The Golden Compass" will do more for Nicole Kidman's image and celebrity, rather than earn her another Oscar nomination. The role doesn't seem like something they'd go for. Still, you nver know right?
Well both Jack Nicholson & Morgan Freeman play the same character over and over again. So the questions is will their characters be different? By looking at the trailer I'd say uh no.
ReplyDeleteAbout Eastern promises. The movie is all about Viggo Mortensen so, It¡s smart to put Naomi Watts in the supporting category... Reservation road's campaig is so freakly ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteLee, nobody is underestimating "Reservation Road" due to the festivals anymore. It's gone wide and was disliked, hated even, by many.
