Trailer for Scorsese's Shutter Island

We finally get a look at Marty's latest:

-What do you think of this trailer? My take is that it looks fantastic, though it seems too much like a horror/thriller for too heavy Oscar contention, but I could be wrong...also, is Mark Ruffalo in this enough to be a player in the supporting actor category? Overall, I dig it heavily...

  2. I dont think Ruffalo could get into the supporting category but, once again, this a weak year in that department.

I think Emily Mortimer will steal the show.

  3. Ruffalo has no shot, his character is not baity at all, look out for Haley though. And Mortimer and Leo obviously.

  4. On the it being too horror/thriller, I think I remember "the departed" really playing up the whole "this is not an Oscar movie" thing and that idea was wrong.

  5. Holy crap, this exceeded my already high expectations...

I think that DiCaprio is going to win...

  6. I'm not gonna say that I don't have mild concerns about it, but still...I'm super excited...I know this doesn't do it justice, but I got a 1408 vibe from it, and that film was quite good, and I fully expect this one to be better

  7. This is the kind of trailer for a film that gets me excited! Yes, it looks like a thriller, with a bit of horror too, but you've got Scorcese and Dicaprio, who both demand attention. Scorcese is known for getting great performances from his cast, so he could bring something out in this that we are not expecting. No matter what the Academy does or doesn't do (and God knows it can be fickle) this movie is going to be one to look out for in my book!

  8. Also, when considering how (or if) the performances in this film will be considered, let us remember Oscar winning performances in thrillers such as Kathy Bates, Anthony Hopkins, and Jodie Foster.

  10. Wow looks really good visually and story wise. It does remind of a Stephen King movie like others said it is sort of like 1408, anyway this and nine are my most looked foward to movies.

  11. I'm looking for Haley and DiCaprio to bring some strong performances to this film, Haley espicially. I don't think voters will forget that he already had a strong performance this year in Watchmen(although he won't get the nom for that movie, which I think he totally deserves) and will award him a nomination in the supporting category for this.

  12. looks well executed following the path from silence of the lambs, it could well lead to a best picture nomination.
If it does that would take away The Road, as it seems there's only room for one thriller/comedy/musical/action/animation etc per year.
Also i think Dicaprio and Mortimer for acting as well as cinematography, editing, directing, screenplay, art direction and sound are all evident contenders from this trailer.

  16. scorsese's cape fear was fantastic and underrated, his style works well with horror/thriller, this looks even better than cape fear though.

  18. I wouldnt worry about Ruffalo getting a nomination, especially when you predict such frontrunners as Bill Nighy...
btw that was sarcasm, your predictions suck overall
