Awards Profile: Gone Baby Gone

Joey Magidson puts his two cents on Gone Baby Gone's Oscar potential, especially the very favorable odds for Amy Ryan right now:

"Amy Ryan is poised for a real breakout year. She’s received plenty of raves for this film, and with “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead” and “Dan in Real Life”, two dark horse Oscar contenders on the horizon for this year, the Academy may find her hard to resist"

  1. Many critics say Amy Ryan is the strongest competition to Cate Blanchett. In a weak and boring category, I think she's an important contender for three reasons:
-She has the best performance in a very well received film (GBG)
-She participated in other two interesting films
-Only competition is Cate Blanchett and Ryan's role is more Oscarish, a bitch and drunk mother...
    Other possibles nominees:
-Susan Sarandon, Samantha Morton, Romola Garai, Kelly McDonald and Vanessa Redgrave: Too small part
-Jennifer Connelly: Too dark and poorly received by critics
-Jennifer Jason Leigh: Strong to be nominated against the mixed reviews but win...
-Helena Bonham Carter, Julia Roberts and Tabu: Category confussion???
-Evan Rachel Wood and Saorsie Ronan: They're very young...
-Marisa Tomei, Tilda Swinton and Jennifre Garner: I don't think so
-Abbie Cornish: Too unknow and overshadow by Cate and Samantha...
