Quirky, heartfelt comedy Lars and the Real Girl is gaining lots of Oscar buzz for his leading man: Ryan Gosling (in an unusual, yet highly sympathetic, role). Joey Magidson analyzes the film's real awards prospects:
"Would a better title for this film be Lars and the Real Chance at a Nomination? Probably not, as it would make no sense in relation to the story but when it comes to Ryan Gosling, the actor in the title role, that is a different case. Gosling may be on his way to a second consecutive Oscar nod for this decidedly unconventional part"

ReplyDeleteHis reviews so far are just as good, if not better, than Clooney's in MC and Sam Riley's in Control. He's not an unknown anymore and this is not a no-budget film (At least the academy would have heard of it comes nomination time). He definately has a shot imo.
He's unrecognizable from Half Nelson. That would help his campaign right?

ReplyDeletei actually think the sweetness is going to appeal to the academy, as most of the roles so far getting buzzed about are decidedly bitter ones

ReplyDeleteLittle Miss Sunshine is a good comparison...both are quirky, adult comedies that tickle the brain as much as the funny bone.
