-Overall, some rather surprising omissions, but some interesting inclusions, so it's nothing too special...this doesn't mean much in the long run...the NBR this week will be a helping hand, though if any trends from here continue, we'll certainly take note....thoughts?

  1. The Satellite awards are fun to see what they nominated, but hardly have any real impact. I mean Best ORIGINAL Screenplay for Benjamin Button and Elegy?? And Ballast came into their Top 10 with no nominations...Although it was nice to see lots of stuff for The Reader (although no Ralph for anything?) and a nom for Kabluey. They also seem to really like Mark Ruffalo! I don't think most of them have seen all the movies nominated and just started writing them down.

  2. exactly...it's good to get the precursors started, but their impact is minimal...plus they have some odd errors, like what you mentioned...some exclusions that make no sense...but it's nice to see Ruffalo get some notice

  3. A few errors in categorization, such as the screenplay confusion. Looks like they really loved The Reader and Frozen River. But I was surprised to see something so small and unknown like Frozen River (which had been all but forgotten) essentially stealing The Dark Knight's spot in the Best Film category.

As far as precursors go, Satellite Awards are hardly even a blip on the proverbial Radar, but its nice to see the precursor season as a whole get started so we can move on from idle speculation and get a real sense for the direction this year's race is headed.

  4. Hmm...seems strange to omit Benjamin Button and Dark Knight. And Tropic Thunder for best pic? Really??

And on a personal note, hooray for Beyonce getting a Supporting Actress nod. I can't wait to see Cadillac Records.

  5. This award group are kind of dingy. Remember how they didn't even nomiante Day-Lewis and There Will Be Blood last year ? And how can you screw up the screenplay category ? CCBB is an adaptation. And to leave it off for best picture and no acting nods is suspect. It still remains my front runner for the most Oscar nomination's at no less than 10.
And has anyone heard of Kabluey or Future Species ? The NBR will be more award worthy in their picks.

  6. Has Curious Case of Benjamin Button or The Reader been released?

I am just a casual reader of this blog and I don't know how the Satellite Awards work so please excuse my question.

  7. I'm so glad Benjamin Button is so lacking on this list. It's not that I don't want that movie to be good, but I've just been perplexed this whole time, wondering why Awards Circuit thinks it's going to be so incredible. Sure, it looks cool and all, but I just don't see why they think it'll be the next Forrest Gump or something. I'd love to be proven wrong, but as of right now...

  8. In the case of myself, I just think it's got a good combination of wonder and romance to it which could be a good mix come awards time...I make no claims that it's going to be anything incredible, we'll all judge for ourselves later on this month
