I saw a bit of the first film, once, and was not overly impressed with its special effects etc. Then, when the films were all coming out regualrly, The Lord of the Rings was happening, and I was first and foremost a Lord fan. I didn't want to perservere with Harry Potter and detract in either way from the those films or the LOTR films by watching both. So, LOTR got my vote. Then, when those films had come and gone from cinemas, I thought I'd get into the Harry Potter films. I watched the first one, and then the second. I picked up the books and read them one after the other, longing to get to the end and find out what happens, but scared to do so as well for the magic to be over. The child in me, and the adult, thrived on these books. Although in my own opinion the LOTR films far exceed Harry Potter films, the HP films have been exciting, and as they grow darker I am more and more thrilled by them. The stories are wonderful escapism and I am sure I will read and watch them again and again.
Having said that, I am looking forward to the Half Blood Prince. This trailer is very dark and visually stunning. It has elements that are similar to the LOTR, however I don't think it's contrived. I can't wait to see the next instalment. Besides, the cast is fantastic (great british actors) so that's a reason for me to watch it in itself.
Personally I don't think the Harry Potter and LOTR films should be compared. They are completely different other than the fact they contain magic and are both based on beloved books. The early HP films were aimed much more at children (like the books) and so were never going to fare well opposite LOTR, especially considering how great they turned out.
I think this trailer looks great, and I hve no doubts that the film will be just as good! Can't wait!
Who would you like to see be the main villain in the next Batman film?
