In other news, this movie and Rachel Getting Married have both moved to the head of the Oscar race, at least for now. Though neither is a frontrunner by a long shot, they're both firmly on the radar.
ReplyDeleteThe Wrestler could be a dark horse. Darren Aronofsky has yet to make a bad film, and Mickey Rourke is said to be amazing in it.
ReplyDeletelots of good word for marisa tomei too, shes so underrated and was snubbed last year
ReplyDeleteI feel like The Wrestler is going to have a big Rocky vibe to it...if it makes a splash at toronto and picks up good distribution, it'll have a chance to really make a big push into the race
ReplyDeletethe wrestler sounds great. marisa tomei hopefully steals the show, she usually does. and anne hathaway probably will walk away with the "young up and comer" nomination, taking it away from both keira and emily
ReplyDeleteFrom Variety: A U.S. distribution deal for “The Wrestler,” which is co-produced by Gaul’s Wild Bunch, is now deemed imminent in Toronto. Andrea Occhipinti, topper of Lucky Red, the pic’s Italo distrib, said he was eyeing a January release date “after the Oscars campaign.”
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean it won't be in contention this year? Seems like a poor decision if so
