Can Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams succeed where Leo and Kate failed?

At a dissolving marriage, that is. Variety has the scoop on this potential laden indie flick that is getting under way:
Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams are set for the indie drama "Blue Valentine." Filming is under way in New York and Pennsylvania.
Gosling and Williams play a couple whose marriage is failing. As their relationship hits the rocks, they recall better days. Derek Cianfrance, Cami Delavigne and Joey Curtis penned the script; Cianfrance directs.
Pic is financed by Incentive Filmed Entertainment.
Mike Vogel, John Doman and Maryann Plunkett round out the cast.
Silverwood Films' Lynette Howell and Hunting Lane Films' Jamie Patricof and Alex Orlovsky are producing. Latter pair produced the Gosling starrer "Half Nelson."
William Morris Independent and Endeavor are co-repping U.S. distribution rights, and Hyde Park Intl. is selling international territories at the Cannes Film Festival.
Formed one year ago to produce and finance films under $15 million, Incentive recently completed the Don Roos-directed "Love and Other Impossible Pursuits."
Gosling will next be seen starring with Kirsten Dunst in "All Good Things," and Williams will next be seen in the Martin Scorsese-directed "Shutter Island." Cianfrance previously directed "Metalhead" and "Brother Tied."
-I love the combination of the two, hopefully this turns out well, if it does, maybe we'll be looking at Oscar noms? What do you think about all that?

  1. I wouldn't go so far as to say what Leo and Kate did in Rev Road is a failure. I thought they were great.

  2. I think what Joey means is that their marriage in the movie failed. He's wondering if this screen couple can save their marriage (if I had to guess, no).

I really like these two as a screen couple. You know this movie will be dynamite just from their presence.

  3. yea, doesn't read like the performances were a failure (if memory serves I think he had a little post last year saying he liked them a lot, but had script issues or something)
