Trailer for Nine

-Impressive, though it seemed like they were shielding Daniel Day-Lewis...not sure if that's a concern or not, but if all goes well, this should be seen a lot come Oscar night...thoughts?

  1. I disagree Joey, I didn't feel like the were shielding Mr. Day-Lewis. The trailer showed him more than any other actor (understandibly since he is the lead). Do you think this because the trailer did not have him speak (or sing)? I understand them not having him speak because throughout the trailer only one song was sung, and only one line spoken (Dench). I think it works better stylistically not having him speak.

The songs better be magnificent, or else I will be spending the enire movie thinking I've already seen this, as I did during the trailer. '8 1/2' is one of my all-time favorites, but for me to enjoy 'Nine' it will have to have many differences.

  2. At least there will be plenty of eye-candy. Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Kate Hudson. And Fergie's body. Also, for 75 years old Sophia Loren looks great.

  5. indeed, it's the singing of him that has me worried, and this gave ammunition to those that think his singing will be the drawback here...I'm still on the fence

  6. I dunno, I've heard good things here and there, so I'll remain optimistic. Looks good to me though.

  7. I was looking to hear some of the artists sing, especially DD-L, however, trailers for musicals these days often do not have the stars performing in song so, I guess, some audiences won't be turned off by the fact it's a musical. However, keeping in mind that the director of this directed Chicago, I was hesitant about what this would be like. Now, having seen this trailer, my interest is more than piqued!

  8. I have to say that one of the most interesting characters is Saraghina, played by Fergie. I'm expecting Cruz, Cotillard and Hudson to be simplt amazing. I dont really think it will be something great for Lewis or Kidman. I just dont feel them yet.

  9. I basically had an orgasm. Chicago is one of my favorite films of all time and i love the approach Rob Marshall takes to musicals by allowing the songs to act as allegory and people just breaking into song and dance while sitting in their living room...at least this trailer looks to be continuing that style from chicago

  11. For people who are concerned about Lewis' singing voice, I wouldn't worry. When Javier Bardem dropped out of the Film I remember reading that Daniel was immediately cast when the producers heard his singing voice.

  12. At first I thought all this buzz was building up for "Nine" to be a big flop. Now that I've seen the trailer (about ten times may I add), there is no doubt in my mind it will be big at the end of the year.

Out of the cast - these are my predix for the most likely to be nominated (based on the trailer, of course):

    Strongest Possibilities
    01. Judi Dench (comedic sidekick with witty lines and her own musical number. Yeah... )

    02. Daniel Day-Lewis (if his acting and singing are great - he's in, I think.)

    Very Much Possibilities
    03. Nicole Kidman (everyone knows what happened when she played in Moulin Rouge, plus she's playing a sexy actress diva.)

    04. Marion Cotillard (the cheated-on wife, she has a very baity role, and she is due to get another nomination soon.)

    05. Stacy Ferguson (a whore nun with an Italian number singing with a big number that is important to the main characer's sexual arc. Yes. Baity, believe it or not.)

    06. Penelope Cruz (the sexy mistress, Oscar loves her, and she has a very erotic musical number about sex. So yeah.. )

    07. Sophia Loren (she is an acting legend returning to the screen, but I've heard her role is very unbaity, and she doesn't even have a musical number.)

    Don't see happening:
    08. Kate Hudson (as a journalist? Seems like the least baity...)

  13. **About Stacey Ferguson - I meant to say Italian accent, not number. Lol.

  14. At a guess looks like Rob Marshall has brought the same production team as in Chicago. If this fails they'v still got an art direction nod in the bag, that's obvious. From this trailer it definately looks like one of the front runners throughout the year.

  15. Yes, I heard the story about DD-L being cast immediately when they heard his voice - the thing is I heard something similar when the put Gerard Butler in as the Phantom of the Opera! But I did read something from the movie that Daniel's voice is very good.

  16. gerard butler has a good voice...hes just not a good enough actor to carry that voice to believability...phantom was such a flawed typical schumacher production anyways

  17. Its kind of ironic how the cast is full of oscar winners but the one who looks the most beautiful and energetic is Kate Hudson. I'm sure the film will be great, especially with such a great director, cast, screenwriter, source material. The only thing I am worried about is how similar it looks to Chicago in terms of the dim, shadowy lighting, the art direction, the dance sequences, and that soundstage is looking a lot like the stage that the numbers were performed on in Chicago. Comparisons might be made, and it made be too similar for some Oscar voters.

  18. hmm, Douglas Reese, don't hold back on Hudson just yet. She has what all the actresses in the film lack; that refreshing all-american-girl charm.

It could help her nag at least a golden globe....
