Quick thoughts from last night's early screening of Funny People

In short, it's Apatow's best work yet, a deserving contender for Best Picture, some of Adam Sandler's most mature acting (Rogen and Mann do career best work as well), and as much as anything, a hilarious movie. Judd Apatow has expanded on the winning formula he has and crafted a hysterical drama. It's one of the best of the year...here is my review, along with Keith's.

  2. I really can't wait to see it next week...

It seems like it exceeded your expectations; how much of a chance do you think it actually has in categories like director or screenplay, or even acting categories?

Also, did you time it? There's a bunch of different run times floating around the internet, and I was wondering if you'd be able to clarify for me...

  3. My expectations were very high, and yes, it exceeded them somehow...it's actually a screenplay frontrunner to me...Best Pic is a decent shot with 10 slots...Apatow might be a longshot for director, but he deserves it...and Sandler, Rogen, and Mann are all nomination worthy.

It clocked in at 140 minutes...hope that clarifies

  4. I agree with everything Joey said, save it's his best work to date. I'd say it's tied with Knocked Up, but that's just me.

Also, FP has a great chance at receiving nods in the s/p and acting categories. It has a reasonable chance to get a bp considering the 10 slots.

  6. This isn't Funny People related, but I just saw Harry Potter and I think you guys should include it in the tracker for the sound categories, as well as original score. The sound mixing, especially in the flashback scenes with Tom Riddle, was excellent.
