I just watched Revolutionary Road, and it was a tad bit disappointing. If you want to watch the tragic demise of a couple in suburbia, you are better off watching American Beauty. The Dark Knight is the front runner for that fifth slot. The only challengers are Doubt and Wall-E. It should go to the Wrestler, but that's another story.
Do you think that Leonardo DiCaprio will get nominated?
ReplyDeleteThat's all that matters to me
Good question. It will be incredibly tough. At this point, there are seven potential candidates:
ReplyDelete(no order)
1. Rourke
2. Penn
3. Langella
4. Jenkins
5. Eastwood
6. Pitt
7. DiCaprio
Penn and Rourke are locks. Langella's performance is brilliant, and the Academy loves Eastwood. He might get that fifth slot, but I wouldn't be shocked if they gave it to Jenkins instead. I'd say he's holding on to that fifth slot, but barely.
How was Kate Winslet? Do you think she had a good enough of a performance to pull off the Oscar? I haven't had a chance to see the film, but from what I have seen, my bets are on Hathaway.
ReplyDeleteWinslet will get a nomination.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Streep yet. Apparently her performance is the best so far. I didn't like Winslet's character much, but that doesn't take away from her acting abilities. I can't definitively say she will win. However, her performance was good enough for a victory. If that makes any sense.
Hmmm, the general consensus on this film is that its fantastic, but still nowhere near as good as the novel and some aspects work better on page than on film. That being said, I loved the film, and actually preferred it to American Beauty.
ReplyDeleteLogical minds can disagree. I think it suffers because the book is so damn good and nuanced. There's only so much one can do in the span of 2 hours.
ReplyDeleteHave to totally disagree with you hear...I think RR is the best film of the year, acted so beautifully and it's gut-wrenchingly realistic.
