The Return of Scorsese; Paramount Pictures 2009 Preview

I know we have a few hours left in 2008, but it's never too early to take a glance at '09. Paramount released it's 2009 preview. The Lovely Bones and Shutter Island (or Ashecliffe) stand out as potential Oscar films.  The early release date for The Soloist will hurt it's Oscar potential, but it might be in the running, who knows? The premise for Up in the Air seems funny, and is written and directed by the same dudes that produced Thank You For Smoking. They have a few potential money makers in there too (Star Trek, GI Joe, and Transformers). Overall, the list is really balanced. I'm just glad Martin Scorsese is returning with DiCaprio. Deadly combination.

Anything else excite you about 2009?

  1. I have at least enjoyed every film that Martin Scorsese has ever released. His recent colaborations with DiCaprio have all been great, and while this sounds like it could be more like a commercial follow-up to a critical success (i.e. - Cape Fear after Goodfellas) I think that it will probably be a great watch. At this point, there's not anything else that I know of that I feel truly excited about for next year.

  2. I have read the script for Shutter Island and it is phenomenal but also very different for Scrosese. Can't wait to see it. I think Leo may finally win next year.

  5. I'm excited for Coraline, I read the book (which is amazing), so I'm excited to see how it will turn out. Also looking forward to Harry Potter 6 and Watchmen. Watchmen looks fantastic.
