What are the scariest non-horror movies around?

An interesting list, to say the least (since it's Halloween today and all), but I came across this and had to post it. The entire article is here, but these are supposedly the 10 scariest films that can't be classified as "horror" films:

  • Requiem for a Dream (2000)
  • Mulholland Drive (2001)
  • Open Water (2003)
  • Hard Candy (2005)
  • Lake of Fire (2006)
  • Apocalypto (2006)
  • United 93 (2006)
  • Funny Games (2008)
  • Standard Operating Procedure (2008)
  • Antichrist (2009)

  1. Definitely for Requiem and Antichrist and I'd also add Oldboy

  2. interesting choice...I'm curious to see what people find scary, since I'd say that most horror movies aren't scary, regardless of their quality...

  3. and for me, the scariest movie ever made is Arachnophobia, since I'm scared shitless of spiders haha

  4. Mulholland Drive is a masterpiece, but the first time I saw it (I was like 14) I was so scared by the hobo thing that I couldn't walk around corners without my heart racing. And the Club Silencio while beautiful, makes me so uneasy to think about.

  5. I didn't care much for the flick, but it was certainly odd

  6. Silence of the Lambs. I wouldn't consider it a horror so much as a thriller, and it scared the shit out of me when I first saw it.

  7. United 93 was a completely harrowing film. Antichrist is also very disturbing and I agree that neither of them can be considered horror movies.
