This really gives it a big boost after all the snubs in the past few days.

  1. Hmm should be this year's Dreamgirls. Probably won't make it. Big snubs for No Country.

  4. Well, it's certainly not winning Best Picture at the Oscars, so this will have to be its consolation prize.

The Academy will vote for NCFOM even more strongly now, since it's an American film and perceiving the GG results as a snub.

  5. PRAISE GOD!!!! Finally the best film of the year gets recognized...it's a LOCK for an Oscar nod, so stop debating!

  6. If Atonement is nominated for an Oscar, and I think it will be, this may help its chances for a win.

  7. Oscar voting is closed so these wins don't matter.

  8. Maybe Into the Wild can pull an upset at the Oscars like Atonement did here. I really can't see Atonement winning after the string of snubs that it has been facing lately. GO INTO THE WILD!!!!

  9. Well we know about the oscars ballot and im sure that Atonement nomination has always been a lock, so this victory will ive it a hue boost for te oscars, there are still lots of awards to be given (baftas, sags and the guilds...) so anything can happen (remember crash)

  10. Right on the money. I suspect that, if history repeats itself, this film is now guaranteed to not win Best Picture.

  11. If anything, INTO THE WILD is this year's Crash.

But NCFOM will win Best Picture. Count on it.

  13. So happy about "Atonement" one of the best films of 2007. Finally, some well deserved recognition. WHy does it have to be Atonement or No Country? Why does everyone always bash Atonement and promote their film? WHy can't people be mature and acknowledge that both films are great. It's always "Atonement sux cuz No Country is great." And just so you know, that's not an argument.

  14. Of the last 7 years, the HFPA has a below 50 (43 % 3/7) percent average in selecting best pictures for drama that go on to win the Oscar. They averaged a respectable 0 percent the last three years, and they did not even select Crash or LMSS. No Country has literally been sweeping most of the Awards from critics. So, this might be a small bump, but I do not think it is anything significant. With that said, I thought Atonement was a brilliant movie. It certainly deserves a little more praise (the first half was fantastic), but No Country is a better film IMO.
