Just when we are thinking the road to the Oscar is getting very predictable, the Academy always throw in one or two big shockers... In a year with so many worthy contenders, who do you think will be snubbed?
Actually, I would love it if Angelina Jolie got snubbed for "A Mighty Heart" - which I doubt she will be. But it would be VERY admirable if the academy nominated Anamaria Marinca instead of her.
Well, Cate could very well be snubbed in the best actress category for Elizabeth, I think. But I don't really consider that a snub, since she'll no doubt get a supporting nomination for I'm Not There.
i personally think that if Angelina Jolie is snubbed it'll be very unfair ..i think she's a great actress. So i think the most likely to be snubbed is Blanchett for Elizabeth ..and i think that it wouldn't hurt anybody because she might even win in supporting for I'm not there. I really want that spot to be taken by Tang Wei for Ang Lee's Laust,Caution. That would be great!
Personally I would like to see either Bonham Carter or Adams take Blanchett's spot because really TGA was awful compared to the first Elizabeth and Blanchett's already a lock for I'm Not There and the Oscar is either going to her or Ryan in Supporting.
The undoubtedly going to happen snubs of Helena Bonham-Carter, Amy Adams, and Nikki Blonsky in the Lead Actress race. Jennifer Garner and Allison Janney in the Supporting Actress race. Alan Rickman and Peter O'Toole (who isn't eligible) in the Supporting Actor race. Persepolis & 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days in the Foreign race (yes it's already happened but it will be depressing when they announce the nominees). The King of Kong (see last sentence). Ratatouille and Sweeney Todd in Best Picture. On that same note, Brad Bird and Tim Burton in Best Director (the latter will be especially painful).
Well, i think a total surprise nom is in order for Bonham Carter, only because with musicals, the academy tends to like to nominate the pairs of actors that carry it.
I.E. Murphey/Hudson - Dreamgirls Phoenix/Witherspoon - Walk the line Zelweger/Zeta Jones/Latifa -Chicago
so i think that they'll pair Depp and Bonham Carter for Sweeney Todd.
also, in 2003, DDL lost to Adrien Brody, basically a nobody, after being frontrunner the whole year. This year i think Emile Hirsch, another basic nobody, might steal it from from DDL yet again.
But my vote for the most snubbed film of 07 is the Darjeeling Limited. Basically no one saw it, and it had the basic elements of Anderson, but it also showed a new maturity to his filmaking. Zodiac, too, is to be snubbed, but who doesnt know that.
I hope it doesn't happen, but I'll be furious if Paul Dano doesn't get nominated for Supporting Actor for "Blood". His performance, I thought, was shockingly good.
As far as Best Actress I would love to see Nicole Kidman get a nomination instead of maybe Cate (I'm sure she'll get one for I'm Not There), but I know it will never happen. I would also LOVE LOVE LOVE to see Juno or Michael Clayton (they were both good, but not that good)snubbed in favor of Atonement, my favorite movie of the year.
For the fifth spot for Best Supporting I want to see Helena Bonham Carter and Sweeney Todd nominated for Best Picture, Dirctor, Actor and Supporting Actress
I am very afraid that Atonement will be snubbed. I have not seen it yet and actually have avoided it so I could see it at a Best Picture Showcase.
I am praying that Michael Clayton will not be nominated. I don't understand all the fuss. It's ending was generic. It was a fine thriller but one of the best movies of the year? Far from it.
The biggest snub of the year has got to be 3:10 to Yuma. The only reason it is not getting nominated is because it is a remake.
I would love Helena Bonham Carter to get a nomination. She deserves it because every movie she does with Tim Burton it's great because of her and her husband, who shouldnt be snubbed. In the ceremony, i sincerely think that the best director prize should go to Schnabel. His the best of the ones in the race.
Though I'm holding out for a surprise on Tuesday, I think the biggest snub will be for Sweeney Todd in the best picture and best director spots. The again, there have been more than a few surprise nominations in those categories before.
I personally would like to see Eastern Promises also score a possible best picture nomination. Thats just a dream nomination though, Seeing Viggo get nominated is enough for me =]
I'm still predicting him, but I think Burton is going to get snubbed. I just want him to get nominated SO BADLY that I really want him in. But when the skip his name, I and the many legions of Burton fans will give a unisen moan.
Depp will be snubbed, so will Burton. Sweeney will only get tech noms, such a shame. It is a brillant movie with brilliant performances. I think Atonment might be snubbed too, along with it's leads.
I think Depp still has a nomination chance. But the academy just can't get over their hatred for him and Burton. That, and they can't seem to get over their delicate sensibilities.
Blanchett will NOT get two nods...are you guys crazy over at your final predics? That film absoloutely sucked? She's got one nod for sure, so they'll definitely pick Amy Adams (deservedly) over her. The biggest snub will The Savages, one of my faves of the year, which should be nominated for Laura Linney and Philip Bosco. But alas, no one saw it...
amy adams should get nominated. but as to who should be snubbed for her to be able to sneak in, i don't really know.
i think (but hopefully not) sweeney todd will be missed in the best picture race. tim burton still has a chance though. it's probably a long shot but i hope helena bonham carter would be nominated for best supporting actress.
Hey? What about Don Cheadle in Talk to Me? Come on, he was absolutely excellent in that film. And so was Denzel Washington in American Gangster and Paul Dano in There Will Be Blood. Unfortunately, they probably will be snubbed.
Who would you like to see be the main villain in the next Batman film?
