Happy Happy Joy Joy.....and such

Hi all, Joey here...ladies and gents, it's time to air out which of the Oscar noms made your day and which omissions brought a tear to your eye.

My yays go to Juno in general, Hal Holbrook, Falling Slowly from Once, and Jason Reitman.

My nays go to the beating Into the Wild took (especially in regard to Eddie Vedder's music and Emile Hirsch), Ryan Gosling's snub, and a shutdown for Knocked Up

how bout you?

  1. your yays couldnt be more different from mine...reitman over wright? they picked the reitman, but not the right man (the wright man). omitting lumet and his great film was also disappointing. on the other hand, i generally support into the wild's snubs.

  2. I was so happy for Linney and Diving Bell! Mmmm, wasn't too happy about Reitman, would have much preferred Wright or Burton. I do agree about the ItW snubs, although mainly only for screenplay, supporting actress and song. I was also was dissapointed about the Gosling snub, darn you Tommy Lee Jones! And lastly, the Blanchett double nom wanted to make me hit my computer, the Golden Age was atrocious, nom should have gone to Bonham Carter or Jolie.

and nothing for Before the Devil Knows You're Dead or Hairspray? quite odd.

  3. I was so disappointed that Tim Burton was not nominated for Best Director. The fact he has never been nominated (for Director) is pretty disappointing and goes to show that his off-beat, nuanced films aren't the "vision" the academy has despite the fact that he has to be one of the most imaginative and visionary of directors today! Still, there's some consolation in the fact that many greats, either actors, writers, directors, what have you, have either never been nominated (yet) or have never won!

  4. No YAY's to speak of because...

the 2 noms I was hoping for were the 2 biggest snubs! NAY for Paul Dano and Eddie Vedder!!!

  5. I am so YAY for Juno and so NAY for the lack of Into The Wild love, I mean 3 Enchanted noms for Original song and 0 for Eddie Vedder - COME ON!!!. Glad to see Atonement getting a BP nom, and glad to see Ratatouille's major love as well.

  6. I was shocked at the lack of love for musicals this year, especially with both Hairspray and Sweeney Todd being two of the best reviewed films of the year. That Sweeney got only one major nomination and Hairspray didn't even get any technical nods is probably this year's biggest upset imho.

Odd to think, but if the Heath Ledger tragedy had occurred a month earlier, he probably would've been nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
