I'm glad alison posted about AMPAS polls closing because people are going crazy everywhere saying that films and performances are back in because of these wins, when nothing could be further from the truth.
Depp won't even be nominated. The Academy thinks the film is too bloody and he wasn't nominated for a SAG award. Depp is still out. However, I'm glad the film and Depp won something this season, even if it is the joke of award season the Golden Globe award.
Hey, Depp was nominated for a GG 8 freakin' times. It's about time they finally gave him the award.
As for the Oscars, I wouldn't be so sure that he's out. Yes, the SAG snub is alarming, but I think that there may be enough love for him for him to be nominated anyway. My guess is the SAG lead actor lineup will match the Oscars 4/5, with Depp replacing one of the SAG noms (hopefully not Viggo!!!).
how can u possibly what the academy thinks? Depp wasnt nominated in te sags because his nomination wasnt presented on time to be eligible. Anyway hes been receiviing a lot of buzz even before te film was premiered so dont count im out still. He will be nominated but will lose to day lewis
Finally Depp wins the GG. About freaking time. It's a shame we couldn't see him accept it and be celebrated as he deserved but at least he won. I don't think he has any chance of getting an Oscar nom though. The SAG snub made sure of that and it really is sad because he gives an amazing performance.Absolutely Oscar worthy IMO, but this is not the year. Perhaps, Shantaram or Public Enemies?? Anywho, I'm glad to see him get some sort of award for Sweeney, he really deserved that.
Who would you like to see be the main villain in the next Batman film?

ReplyDeleteBack in the race? Hmm. Globe voters dont vote at the Oscars.
ReplyDeleteGuys, the AMPAS polls closed yesterday. Whether someone wins or loses today makes no difference as to whether they're nominated for the Oscars.
ReplyDeleteHowever, a win here may give an edge to the nominees who also won here.
But Depp wasn't out of the race anyway. :)
