ACCA Winners For 2003 Are Here!

Our sincerest apologies for the lateness of these results, but at last, they are finally here. Let us know what you think of the winners. Who should have won? Who should have been nominated? Who shouldn't have been nominated? And what are your predictions for 2002? Enjoy the results video right here:

  1. Very entertaining! Very glad (and surprised) that Zellweger defended her title. Johnny Depp winning over Penn is silly, but Captain Jack is certainly more memorable.

No surprise at all that LOTR won a lot. Glad Kill Bill was shut out, I thought the QT fanboys might push it to the top. I also enjoyed how many runner-up positions that City of God got in the technicals. Such a great film.

Might I suggest that in the future you announce the runner up prior to the winner? It would build the tension, instead of it being anti-climactic.

  2. Well, we're pleased you were entertained, since we sure were (you should heard the outtakes and deleted material).

Not a bad suggestion, we discussed it and figured we wouldn't bury the lead, but we could potentially switching it up in the future.

  3. Another great video, very entertaining. Now the question is will Chicago make another big showing in 2002?

  4. And it all depends on how YOU vote!

  5. I personally love Chicago (and not just because I live there), but I do wonder how it will be judged now in hindsight. Although I'm also hoping for a stronger showing for Minority Report. I guess we shall see.

  6. I like the movie quite a bit, but it's a stacked year to come...

  7. Random comment: I just realized Ellen Kuras has never received a cinematography nomination. Away We Go and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind were both among the most beautiful movies I've ever seen (same for her documentary Betrayal).

  8. Proof that the internet is no smarter than Oscar voters: Tim Robbins and Renee Zellweger, two of the hammiest, fussiest, and most unjustified Supporting Actor and Actress winners of the last decade won the ACCA. I guess your readers got confused and thought best = most. Oh well, at least the two superior comic turns from Murray and Depp beat Sean "IS THAT MY DAUGHTER IN THERE?!?" Penn.

  9. Wild Things- One day she'll get her due.

  10. Robert- They wouldn't be my choices, but I didn't have a vote. Majority rules...

  11. I completely disagree with Robert, well I completely disagree with everyting except Renee Zellweger being a horrible actress. Robbins and Penn gave the two best performances of the year in my opinion so thats who I voted for.

Looking forward to 2002, I hope Chicago gets shut out. I hated that movie, which makes it even odder that I loved Nine.

  12. Robbie- Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. For example, I don't hate Renee Zellweger. Go figure.

  13. And yes, odder is in fact a word.

  14. Lastly, I must compliment Myles once more on the work he did on this. One of the reasons this took so long to come out was all the nonsense and less than clean humor we originally had in it, so he played the part of editor as we as video creator, so go him!

  15. I also want to say that I loved the video, it was definitely a good idea and worth the wait.

  16. Well, I am not surprised one bit that most of the Oscar winners got awarded with ACCAs. It is very tough to judge what is best when the most important award has already been decided. Sean Penn losing to Johnny Depp was a travesty lol. Johnny was funny, but not great I mean come on, Penn's performance is one of the best male performances ever. Lol, but I feel like people were kinda tired of him since he also gave a wonderful performance in Milk. I really enjoyed the video, veru fun, but yeah the tension of the delay really drove me crazy lol. Can wait for this year's ACCA and 2002's.

  17. Well, Gil, you can at least take comfort in the fact that the Academy has as much of an anti-comedy bias as you, since the Academy also believes that self-conscious 'Acting!' is better (nay, "one of the best male performances ever") than deft comedic work. Just ask Peter Sellers.

  18. I'll say this...Peter Sellers really deserved to win, more than once I might add.

  19. I would have nominated Emile Hirsch in The Mudge Boy for Best Actor. Not sure if he's really as good as the other 5, but that was a brilliant performance.

  20. Excellent under the radar choice. He was my #6 Male Lead performance in that year (I'm also surprised anyone besides me has seen it). I don't love the movie, but it's another great performance by one of my favorite actors working today.

  21. Well I will have to disagree with you Robert, Sean Penn's performance in Mystic River is one of the best male performances that I have ever seen. When he sees his daughter at that ditch, omg and when he realizes that he killed the wrong man. Pure rawness to be honest. Can I just say something, I am not raging or anything but it really annoys me when people get cranky about the academy no being friendly to comdies. Come on Johnny Depp's performance was a LOL. I would never compare Peter Sellers to Johnny Depp.

  22. To each their own. I'm not big on either of Penn's 2003 performances or Depp, but that's just me.

  23. Not surprised about the Lord of the Rings sweep, but hey, in fact, majority rules. Glad to see some love for City of God and Lost in Translation.
Big applause for Depp rightfully winning, and Murray coming in second. If it was up to me Penn wouldn't even be in the lineup. Same goes for Robbins but eh, Zellweger winning (funny, I'd say that's an upset hehe) makes up for it.

  24. Indeed. I was crossing my fingers for Lost in Translation, but the voters spoke.
