Today's Trailers: Buried, Piranha 3D, and The Hole

We start things off with a new teaser for the horror-ish (I read the script, and it's not quite horror, but not quite a thriller) flick 'Buried':

Next we have a trailer for the 3D creature feature 'Piranha 3D':

Finally, we have a look at Joe Dante's 3D kids thriller called 'The Hole':

-Thoughts?

  1. Buried is shaping up just like the script I read, Piranha looks like stupid fun, and The Hole looks fair, but nothing special.

  2. Agree on all accounts. I don't know much about Buried, but it looks like an interesting exercise in filmmaking. Piranha looks, just as you say, like stupid fun. The thought of a hammy Christopher Lloyd is intriguing. The Hole looks like one of those kid movies they used to make fifteen years ago that went straight to DVD. For that age, they're fun, but I'm pretty sure I'll be skipping it.

  3. Call me crazy but I am very excited for Piranha, I have been ever since I heard of its existence (mainly cause Adam Scott, no joke, is one of my favorite actors). But the film looks to be in very capable hands with its directors (who I thought did an outstanding job with the remake of 'The Hills Have Eyes'... one of the extremely few times I thought the remake was better). This has really huge potential to be violent, over-the-top fun that is actually good.

  4. And Ben, I know what you mean. Aja is a talented horror director.

  5. I should also add that "Piranha" is Aja's chance to make up for "Mirrors" aka "24, If Jack Bauer retired and was a security guard at a haunted mall" which is EXACTLY what it was

  6. Yup yup. I enjoy High Tension more than I should, and I'm a fan of the Hills remake, but yea...Mirrors was less than stellar.

  7. None of them really excite me, but agreed Piranhas should be fun - no doubt the fears the originals created in me as a little kid will be kept away by the silliness of this version. The Hole makes me think of Aliens in the Attic.

  8. since he is in Piranha I'm going to go ahead and mention that in the top biggest Oscar snubs ever Adam Scott gets a spot because (while the Indie Spirits took notice) the Academy ignored his incredible and brilliant performance in "The Vicious Kind".... again its just another movie that did amazing in the festivals (including Sundance) and could have been up for Oscars had it been given a campaign. Adam Scott was my best Actor of the year for it, and he continues to be one of my top 3 favorite actors working today.

  9. To follow, even Entertainment Weekly said he should have been noticed this past year and wanted him to win at the Indie Spirits

  10. Well, he was certainly regarded highly for his work in The Vicious Kind by those who actually saw it.

  11. He's one you can add to the list of snubs that occur every year.

  12. personally I thought 2009 in the lead male race was all about the Independent films, my noms would have been

Jeremy Renner - The Hurt Locker
    Sam Rockwell - Moon
    Joseph Gordon-Levitt - 500 Days of Summer
Adam Scott - The Vicious Kind (winner)
    Joaquin Phoenix - Two Lovers

  13. I would have been very happy with that crop, short of omitting George Clooney. I'd likely have swapped Adam Scott for him, but aside from that, it'd be right on.
