  1. Lives of Others is popping up everywhere now, even though it was released in 2006. It did win the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film at last year's Oscars, and it seems stupid to nominate it in 2008.

It's because it's the British variation of the Oscars, and the UK didn't see the film's release until well into 2007, whereas the film was in limited release in America by the end of 2006, thus making it qualify. Such things are not uncommon, and admittedly most in America didn't get a chance to actually see it until later in the year (I didn't get a chance until after the Oscars).
