Sarah Lyall offers a look at Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes. From the article (and the image above), it looks like Ritchie is taking a somewhat different approach to the character of Sherlock Holmes. It's way too early to call, but given the pedigree, this might be a contender in 2009. Thoughts?
I really thought with this film ritchie was getting away from the violent/gangster/crime theme that has been his unoriginal tendency for some time, however this pic begs the question: can't he leave a good thing alone before he kills it by rehashing it in each project?
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'm not a fan of the ex-Mr Madonna any more for one reason and another. He is to directors what Jason Statham is to actors - they seem to make the same film over and over again.
Okay - bring on the offence . . . ;-)
I am a huge fan of snatch but i somewhat agree. This project looks interesting and certainly has the potential but it does seem that richie could muff this one up
ReplyDeleteI don't think this will be a contender at all. i was reading an article by these guys who read the script they said its the same as every Ritchie movie, a fun comidrama just set in Sherlock Holmes time...
ReplyDeletethat's a shame then, perhaps another director
ReplyDeleteDavid Fincher being an obvious example might have people feeling differently
How can peopel even possibly think that this might be good? He's ruining the best book of all time by making it into a sexy, gangster-type film...pretty sure Guy Ritchie only knows how to make one type of movie, and that is an awful one.
ReplyDeletejust throwing it out there. initially they wanted to take a batman begins route, but ritchie switched gears. i would prefer a bb route, mainly because i enjoyed BB and think very highly of downey jr. but who knows at this point, right? it might be better than expected.
