This week isn't much in terms of DVD, but it could be worse...

There isn't anything particularly wonderful this week on DVD, but luckily there aren't any especially horrible films out (unless you're Myles, and then one is extremely bad). It's a below average week overall, and as such, the PICK OF THE WEEK is a decent film, but not an extraordinary one. It's:
Trumbo
This fascinating, if a bit flat documentary about blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo could have been a little less boring, but all things considered, it's an interesting and educational look at a dark time for writers and Hollywood in general.
-Also out on the decent side we have Easy Virtue, which I found forgettable when I reviewed it when it came out (see the review here), and my opinions haven't really changed. The acting is nice enough, but the story just didn't do enough for me. That being said, it's not bad in any way, so take that for what it's worth. I called it a rental film, so now's your chance.
-The other releases this week are Next Day Air and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The first film is better than the latter, but not by much. It's derivative and incredibly average. Wolverine, on the other hand, is below average. Myles hated it more than I did (just look to his review for proof) but it is a very flawed and disappointing movie. The less said about it, the better.
-For my Vintage pick, I'm choosing a variety of films, in honor of the releases of Bright Star, Jennifer's Body, and The Informant!. Bright Star demands high class period pieces, so try out Atonement. Jennifer's Body is a horror comedy and written by Diablo Cody, so try either Scream, Slither, or Juno. Finally, The Informant! is a film about a whistle blower, so grab The Insider to match up. All are good picks, so enjoy!
-What will you be watching on DVD this week?

  1. In honor of the late Patrick Swayze, I'll definitely be watching Road House and Ghost, which now will have an ending even more sad.
