Keeping track of the Foreign Language Oscar Contenders...
These are the films so far submitted for consideration, so keep in mind, more films are still to come (in fact, just hours ago France decided on A Prophet as their submission, so that's not on the list, but is in play). Here they are:

There's so many of them that we have no access to. I think that's the biggest problem with the foreign film category. Even if you wanted to follow the films, you probably will find it difficult to gain access to them. I really want to see the White Ribbon, but I'm in Durham, which is a weak market for the distribution of foreign films.
ReplyDeleteAs for your question, I can't really say. I know little to nothing about most of them. White Ribbon is getting some buzz, but other than that, I haven't heard much. Also, only five of those films will make it. Its almost impossible to adequately review all of those films in the face of probability (i.e. low likelihood that a film makes it to the top five).
Indeed, I think I've heard of maybe 3 of these films...
ReplyDeleteI just added A Prophet to the beginning, since France picked it after the article originally went up
