The Nominees for the ASC Award

The American Society of Cinematographers announced their nominations today, and here are the lucky people:
Roger Deakins, Revolutionary Road
Roger Deakins & Chris Menges, The Reader
Anthony Dod Mantle, Slumdog Millionaire
Claudio Miranda, Benjamin Button
Wally Pfister, The Dark Knight
-Looks like another good year for Deakins...

    Well I hope he doesn' win this year. both films had good cinematography but no where near any of the other amazing stuff he's done he should have 4 oscars already.

  2. I still think his best is Shawshank, but I get opposition there...but suffice to say, he's a good one

  3. I think most people agree that Deakins should have won by now, but this year is not his standout. Still, he is one of the best DPs out there.

  5. I don't think I understand why he shouldn't win just because its not his best work. Last year he was the cinematographer for the two best photographed films of the year and walked home empty-handed (again). In 2005 he shot one of the most stark films of the year (Jarhead) and wasn't even nominated. I think (and I've not seen these two films) that if his work is the best nominated work of this year it should win no matter if its not his personal best or not.
