Well, Yahoo Movies has compiled a list here for you to take a peek at (and believe it or not, I've seen all 100...and I'm not sure whether to be ashamed for proud of that fact), but I'd like to submit ten more films (in year order) that didn't make the list, just for fun:
Clerks
Chasing Amy
High Fidelity
Love Actually
Garden State
United 93
The Fountain
Into The Wild
The Wrestler
Up in the Air

It's weird to realize just how many movies you've seen when you look at lists like this one...
ReplyDeleteI've seen 66 out of the 100. The only years where I've seen all them were 99 and 01. I love every film they included in those respective years.
ReplyDeleteDon't be embarassed. I've seen all of the movies on this list, too, though some of their choices (Swingers?) are somewhat questionable. Here are ten films that I think they overlooked:
ReplyDeleteEdward Scissorhands
Eyes Wide Shut
Far From Heaven
Hoop Dreams
JFK
Lost in Translation
Talk to Her
The Thin Red Line
Traffic
The Wrestler
Indeed Andrew.
ReplyDeleteGood call Robert on Eyes Wide Shut, JFK, and Lost in Translation.
ReplyDeleteThere are plenty of omissions, but no choices that really leave you scratching your head, in my opinion...
ReplyDeleteI didn't count, but I saw 9 or 10 on the list that I have yet to see. But, I didn't really like the list that much. Only around 20 or 25 of the films are on my list of top 100 from the last 20 years. I felt that they tried to put a lot of different kinds of films on the list to make it more well-rounded than listing the 100 best films.
ReplyDelete-Robbie
Robert Hamer- Forgot to mention that I love Swingers, but that's just me.
ReplyDeleteRobbie- I think it all depends on what people consider the "best". It doesn't match my top 100 too much either, but I don't think they included any films that are shockingly inept.
ReplyDeleteI get your point, and there were only 5 movies that I felt were shockingly inept. I get that its all just a matter of opinion, but its the glaring ommissions that make this a poor list in my eyes.
ReplyDeleteJust a few for example:
The Godfather, Part III
Barton Fink
JFK
Glengarry Glen Ross
Reservoir Dogs
Jurassic Park
Short Cuts
True Romance
Leon: The Professional
The Lion King
Quiz Show
Braveheart
Seven
Jerry Maguire
Good Will Hunting
Fear and Loathing IN Las Vegas
The Green Mile
Magnolia
Gladiator
Requiem For A Dream
Moulin Rouge!
Gangs of New York
Lord of The Rings II + III
Kill Bill, Vol. 1 + 2
Mystic River
The Aviator
The Incredibles
Million Dollar Baby
Sin City
Babel
The Departed
The Assassination of Jesse James
Atonement
Before The Devil Knows You're Dead
Juno
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Revolutionary Road
Up
Up In The Air
Haha, that wasn't exactly just a few, but I only listed the ones that I feel the majority of people think are great films. There are many more that are just personal favorites of mine that I would list.
Oh well, the list at least provided us with a fun discussion point.
-Robbie
I know what you mean. These lists are never long enough.
ReplyDeleteOf the ones you mentioned, I agree that the following deserve a spot (or at least would be in an expanded list):
ReplyDeleteJFK
Reservoir Dogs
Jurassic Park
The Lion King
Braveheart
Seven
Jerry Maguire
Good Will Hunting
The Green Mile
Magnolia
Requiem For A Dream
Gangs of New York
Kill Bill, Vol. 1 + 2
Million Dollar Baby
The Departed
Juno
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Revolutionary Road
Up In The Air
But that's just me...
