Darren Aronofsky's upcoming supernatural thriller continues to sound better and better...

...at least in terms of casting. This story in Variety (about one of the casting additions) only makes me more excited for this flick:

Winona Ryder is in talks to co-star in Darren Aronofsky's supernatural thriller "Black Swan" opposite Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis.

Fox Searchlight is in talks to co-finance the film and distribute domestically. Cross Creek Pictures is already on board to co-finance. Cross Creek's Brian Oliver is producing alongside Scott Franklin of Protozoa. Arnold Messer and Mike Medavoy of Phoenix Pictures are also producing.

Set in the ballet world of New York City, story centers on a veteran dancer (Portman) and a rival (Kunis) who are tangled in a manipulative relationship, but it's unclear whether the rival is real or a figment of the ballet dancer's imagination. Ryder will play a fellow dancer.

Actress, whose career had been dormant for nearly a decade, has begun to work again in high-profile projects. This summer, she portrayed Spock's mother in the "Star Trek" reboot. She will next be seen in Rebecca Miller's "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee."

Ryder is currently shooting "When Love is Not Enough: The Lois Wilson Story," a Hallmark Hall of Fame Presentation for CBS. She is repped by the Gersh Agency.

This article here from Slashfilm also adds that Vincent Cassel and Barbara Hershey are in as well, which only makes the project sound better...

  1. Yay Winona! She was one of my favorite actresses growing up. I've missed her in good movies. Here's hoping it's a meaty part and she makes a comeback! Any film with Darren Aronofsky is something nice to have on a resume.

  2. Aronofsky has yet to do wrong by me in the least, so anything he makes goes to the top of my must see list (somehow he always exceeds my expectations though, go figure)

  4. You're talking to someone who lists it high up among his 10 favorite films of all time, so no argument to be found here...

  5. I also like all of Aronofksy's work. For me The Fountain is a poetic, often misunderstood tale of life and love. So nice to hear that some other movie-lovers also like it, since almost all of my friends hate it.

  7. I am also looking forward to this movie as a die-hard Arronofsky fan, but on another level as a heterosexual man I need to see this movie because there is supposed to be a sex scene with Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. Two of the most gorgeous women on the planet naked on film for the first time.

Back to the movie, it should be really good, and the supporting cast is building up quite nicely. Cassel is always excellent, I haven't seen Hershey in a while but always loved here work in the 80s (especially Hannah and Her Sisters), and although I've never been the biggest Winona Ryder fan she is usually good.
