An Oscar Nomination for Sandra Bullock?

I'm not so sure, but according to the Envelope, Sandra Bullock might nab her first Oscar nod with her performance in The Blind Side. She has absolutely no buzz at this point, but who knows what will happen now. She was in a stinker (All About Steve) this year, so that might hurt her chances. However, if the performance is as good as the article states, then perhaps there is a chance for her. To be honest, when I first saw the trailer, I thought it was a ESPN made for TV movie and that Bullock was sporting an awful wig.

  1. I'm almost ashamed to admit that I want to see the film...

  2. It's a great story and if it doesn't come across as corny or melodramatic, it could work very well.

  3. I agree, the story is phenomenal. Normally, I don't care for movies like this, but if Sandra pulls it off, I'll certainly check it out.

  5. In any other year, maybe, but will this come off as a Lifetime Channel version of "Precious"?

  6. It might. I didn't read the book, but I read an article about the guy on ESPN. It seems quite inspiring. But in the year of Precious, it might seem like a life time version lol.

  7. The wig is atrocious and begs the question (much like how come the best actors still can't seem to make drinking from an empty cup or carrying an empty bag/suitcase look realistic) why is it we can recreate authentic renditions of worlds imagined by the most vehemently creative minds, yet we still can't seem to master the art of making wigs look like they aren't wigs!

  8. I honestly can't believe that anyone thinks she has even the slightest chance of getting nominated for this film, let alone any of her work in film.

In my opinion, she's never been that talented of an actress (and I don't think she has the potential to be either), and the moment she stepped onscreen in the trailer for this, I couldn't stop myself from laughing. It (like "Precious", to a larger degree) looks like an extremely stereotypical, melodramatic piece of crap which shouldn't even grace the ungraceful slot of inspirational TV sports movies.

I mean, the formula at work here is:

    Stereotypical sports "drama" + A-list star = $$$$$

I can't see past this, and if this limits me as a lover of film and fine performances, then I guess I'm not a film lover.
