Speaking of 'Batman', is Christopher Nolan involved in both a new bat-flick AND a new 'Superman' movie?

Well, yes, according to reports, though he's only "god-fathering" the Man of Steel flick. Nikki Finke and Mike Fleming have a story about this here, but this is a taste:

Warner Bros is trying to ready its DC Comics stalwart Superman to soar again on the Big Screen, and the studio has turned to Chris Nolan to mentor development of the movie. Our insiders say that the brains behind rebooted Batman has been asked to play a "godfather" role and ensure The Man Of Steel gets off the ground after a 3 1/2-year hiatus. Nolan's leadership of the project can set it in the right direction with the critics and the fans, not to mention at the box office. Besides, Nolan is considered something of a god at Warner Bros and has a strong relationship with the studio after the success of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Though he wasn’t obligated to do so, he gave the studio first crack at his spec script Inception, and Warner Bros was able to buy it before other studios even got a sniff. While Nolan completes that Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer for a July 16th release, he's also hatched an idea for Warner Bros' third Batman installment. Now his brother and frequent collaborator Jonathan "Jonah" Nolan, and David Goyer who co-wrote Batman Begins and penned the story for The Dark Knight, are off scripting it.

-Thoughts on Nolan's superhero plate?

  1. is this "Man of Steel" a reboot? or they are recruiting Brandon Routh and Kate Bosworth once again?

  2. I think and hope they would be starting from scratch. By brining Nolan on board I would guess they want a more gritty, authentic version. I wonder who would be up for the Superman role?

I myself have never been able to get into Superman or Spiderman. I love Nolan's Batman franchise because of how authentic it is...it could actually take place (never would, but could the way he lays it all out).

  3. So is Nolan officially back on board to direct Batman 3? If so, that's great news.

  4. I think the situation is that Nolan is likely to direct it, but not officially yet. Superman he's essentially just keeping an eye on and making sure it actually gets made (presumably by a decent director).

  5. so is he writing Superman? Or is he more doing what David S. Goyer did with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight? Providing guidance and counsel to the filmmakers to make sure they stay on the right track? So he'll be basically doing what George Lucas did with The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi; not officially involved in the writing or directing, but acting as a guiding hand?

  6. From what I've gathered, he's essentially a producer without being a producer, having a hand in things and just making sure the ball gets rolling on the film

  7. Ah, so the George Lucas comparison is apt then? (Of course Lucas was Executive Producer on Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, but you get the idea)

  8. More or less. He's not invested in the project in the same personal way, but his duties seem similar. I wouldn't be shocked if his brother ends up writing the flick.

  10. hmm. I didn't mind Brandon Routh. I guess we shall have to see who's cast.

Perhaps they should give Selma Blair a job; I don't think she'd make a terrible Louis Lane.

But... that's just talk...we shall see..we shall see...
