Firstly today we have Tilda Swinton speaking a foreign tongue (and likely kicking off her Oscar campaign) in 'I Am Love':
Next we have the latest SNL sketch to go to the big screen, with 'MacGruber' (note this is a Red Band trailer):
Finally, we have Brian Cox and Paul Dano in the enjoyable looking little flick 'The Good Heart':

I'm not surprised she can speak Italian, so perhaps this trailer isn't as impressive to me as it could be, but I do suspect there will be a small pocket of support for this flick...
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I liked the trailer for The Good Heart a lot and couldn't remember if I had posted it already or not, so here it is.
ReplyDeleteInteresting trailer for "I Am Love", and I was a little surprised that she could actually speak Italian. The trailer itself reminded me a little of the trailer for "A Single Man", essentially since a great deal of both trailers is set to contemporary orchestral music with some vibrant images. I looked up "I Am Love" to a greater extent, and wasn't surprised to see that the music was by John Adams, and that this film is his first film composition.
ReplyDelete"The Good Heart" looks like a very good film, with some interesting performances from two great actors. It's sad that neither Brian Cox nor Paul Dano have broken the barrier to become Oscar nominees yet. Although I can't think of an instance in which they should definitely have both been nominated for an Oscar, but they're very talented actors who never truly get the credit they deserve, and that goes for Cox especially.
I can see I Am Love being good, but it just seems like another "woman having a fling to find herself, till things go wrong" type of movie. I could be wrong though.
ReplyDeleteAs for The Good Heart, I agree completely.
Yea, I know exactly what you mean about "I Am Love".
ReplyDeleteIndeed sir...
ReplyDeleteI am Love looks good, though it kind of makes me think of the Diane Lane film Unfaithful. The Good Heart looks really good - I could listen to Brian Cox recite the white pages. And I'm confused by MacGruber - hate the scratching of one guy's name from his list because he's gay (that's how the trailer makes it look, but film could be different, but discrimination perpetuated anyway) but then relies on gay humour later. Laughed out loud with the "she's my daughter" line though.
ReplyDeleteI don't really watch Saturday Night Live anymore, so I can't comment on how the sketch usually goes...
ReplyDeleteIt just seems like a sketch which isn't even funny in its 2-minute form, let alone two full hours of it...
ReplyDeleteQuite possibly...
ReplyDeleteI Am Love looks sumptuous. Visuals were breathtaking and Tilda looked stunning. Looks very grand opera, Visconti-esque. Too bad it's not coming anywhere near me in the summer =(
ReplyDeleteTilda actually learned Italian AND Russian for the film.
Saw The Good Heart at Method Fest a few days ago. It's decent, but not amazing.
ReplyDeleteAndrew- I had read that she knew a bit beforehand, but yes.
ReplyDeleteGood to know Aaron...
ReplyDeleteI fuckin love Brian Cox
ReplyDeleteAnd boy is it nice to learn that Tilda has decided to re-visit her feminine roots.
