The first words on 'The Lovely Bones' (and a new Poster) begin to emerge...

...and the word is mixed, right now. Keep in mind that it's still very early, but with some people raving (here is one example), but also some people not caring for it at all (a review from Variety, found here). What's the verdict going to be? We'll know for sure soon, but right now it's too early to tell if this will be a critical hit or miss.
-Thoughts?

  1. This is scaring but, I'm hoping it'll be that there is one bad review but many positives, but the bad one just happened to come first. I'm really hoping this is a big success.

  4. I'm probably wrong for this, but I don't care about this movie much. If it does well, then I'll be happy for it. But, I'm sort of indifferent. I'd love for it to succeed to make the race more interesting. However, I won't be shattered if it does not.

  6. I'm glad you're in accordance. I read the book, and though it's incredibly sad and powerful, I've come to believe that the movie probably won't capture that feeling. I respect Peter Jackson a ton, but the material might be out of his ally. Of course, he might kill it, but I need to see the final product before I make any judgements.

  7. I don't imagine Peter Jackson will kill this. What I think people may have a problem with is the cross between reality (a gritty, horrible tale set in day to day life) and unreality (a murdered girl trying to contact her family from heaven). It's going to need a leap for many people, I think, somewhat like What Dreams May Come.

I am really looking forward to this film, cespite having been very uneasy about it when I heard the basic synopsis of the story many, many months ago. Having seen the imagery, and knowing what Jackson can do with a story, I am holding out for this big time!

  8. I loved this book and I think Peter Jackson is great, but I am skeptical of whether or not all the emotion of the book can translate to the screen (there is so much there over a long period of time, and in the movie it will have to be condensed). Its not a book with a lot of mystery or twists, it just follows characters on their journey after Susie's murder so I feel people who don't read the book could be disappointed. And if it doesn't live up to the book those who read it could be disappointed too.

I can't wait to see it and am really hoping it does well. The acting should be great regardless. I am just not sure it will be the big hit across the board.
