    How did this get nominated. If they wanted something less people had heard of they should have went with Mary & Max (which is great), but I shouldn't judge because I have not seen The Secret of Kells

    It's a fantastically animated film. It deserved the nomination. The story is a little ruched especially at the end but overall, im glad it got nominated.

    "how did this get nominated" -- animators and animation enthusiasts on the Academy Animation Committee who saw the film felt it was deserving of the nomination--and more so than the films that did not get in. There is no other way to do it. It certainly wasn't the result of studio politics or a massive ad buy, becasue the film is not supported by or connected to any major distributor.
