In the case of Zodiac, I'd be satisfied with an Adapted Screenplay nod, considering the early release. I suspect the adapted screenplay nominees will translate as such, though Atonement could possibly sneak in, possibly in place of Into The Wild (though that's now 3/4 guilds that are not on its side, it desperately needs that PGA nod). As for Original Screenplay, Knocked Up was a pleasant surprise, but as with 40-Year-Old Virgin I don't expect it to make the cut for Oscar. I'm torn with Lars & the Real Girl, but with so many nods and a few precursor wins it will likely get in. So that leaves Before The Devil Knows You're Dead or Ratatouille to bump in at Oscar time.
ReplyDeleteZodiac has more of a chance than I thought originally...same with Lars....Knocked Up is a fringe candidate....not likely, but cool to see
ReplyDeleteAdapted Screenplay IMO is far more interesting as the majority of the best filsm this year were all adaptations. As usual, Burton's masterpiece got snubbed, but the screenplay was not the thing I was the most concerned about. I'd love to see either No Country For Old Men or There Will Be Blood win adapted screenplay.
ReplyDeleteJust out of curiousity, when do the PGA nominations come out?
ReplyDeleteoh my god! where the f*** is Before the Devil Knows You're Dead?
ReplyDeletesnubbed sir
ReplyDelete@ redlightening, i think the PGA noms come out a couple days after the golden globes.
ReplyDeleteWhere Ratatoille in original screenplay????
If Zodiac scored a nod in adapted, that'd certainly be an accomplishment.
Ans I am telling you.... Atonement is dead!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDead may be a strong word. Dying, certainly.
ReplyDeleteClayton, I take it you were a fan of BTDKYD? As far as I know I'm one of about 8 people to actually see it, but I think the screenplay snub is incredibly harsh, considering how well done the movie was as a whole.
Myles, I saw BTDKYD as well. I liked it a lot and thought it deserved a screenplay nod, as well as more ensemble love.
ReplyDeleteAtonement being left off is a travesty.
ReplyDeleteBTDKYD, Atonement = snubbed.
ReplyDeleteI think Atonement was a better adaptation than Zodiac, but Zodiac is coming into its own as a strong contender for Adapted.
But Knocked Up over BTDKYD? Come on!
