The DGA Nominees are announced!

James Cameron, “Avatar”
Kathryn Bigelow, “The Hurt Locker”
Quentin Tarantino, “Inglourious Basterds”
Lee Daniels, “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire”
Jason Reitman, “Up in the Air”

-Thoughts on the selections?

  1. A little on the safe side, and Daniels surprises me, but overall, I think the other 4 are more or less locked and loaded for the Oscars...

  2. Indeed. I had gone with the theory that they would want to leave open the chance of a lone director nod, but it doesn't seem to be in the cards. I think these nominees will get in, though perhaps not Daniels, depending on how much the Academy likes Eastwood this year, or if someone else caught their eye...

  3. However much it may upset me (I think that, of all the bad elements of "Precious", Daniels' direction is the worst part), I think this is going to end up being the final five. Obviously, the other four are complete locks, and I realize that a lot of people are still on the fence for Daniels, but I think that his film has kinda made a comeback recently in terms of precursors, and that the backing is already there.

  4. Yea, I also mainly took issue with his direction (and the script), but I think these 5, Eastwood, and one or two others are the only legitimate contenders to be nominated anymore...

  5. Wow! Do u know about AVATAR become the Second Highest Grossing Film Worldwide!! This is James Cameron`s Life Time Achievement (yet)!!

regarding the nom here... ya pretty much as expected.. I dare say that Bigelow,Cameron and Reitman are locked for OSCARS…

Could Clint Eastwood get one of the missing spots??

  6. Yes, we'll cover the Avatar story in the coming day or two...and I'd add Tarantino to your list of locks...
